Biography: Friendship and New Country-the Netherlands
Biography
I’m Vu Thanh Lam, 22 year-old. I was born on a warm, sunny day in July 23rd in Hanoi, Vietnam. I had spent 21 years in Hanoi with my parents, my friends and my lovely cat. From now on, I’m started a new life in a new country-the Netherlands. I had a cozy, happy ever childhood with my family that I still remembered that my father used to inspire me with reading books; my mother taught me how to cook, my brother and I had a “lovely fighting time “ . When I was in secondary school, my brother was going abroad, since then around 12 years he is living in Germany. I totally happy because I have a good friend zones and a good boyfriend around me. I really like cat. My super simple dream is having a house with cats and a small garden. For me, 21 years in Hanoi such a perfect moment I have ever!
Who I am in life.
My name is Vu Thanh Lam. I started school when I was 6 years-old. I have to say my study life is just normal as every child. From elementary school to high school, then going to university, I was a normal student, but for all of events and entertainment programs in school, I was willing to attend. I like building a network, such as making lots of friends and acquaintance when I was in school, instead of studying as a “crazy scholar”. I considered myself as a social girl. My friends call me as a “funny person” because I like to tell a funny story to avoid the negative thinking. When I was in 3rd year in Dainam University in Vietnam, I decided to go to Saxion to finish my last year in the Netherland. This is a decision that would change my life forever.
What life means to me.
Life to me means parents- friends-boyfriends- cats. I’m pretty much on the happy side of life, like all teens I do have my “day of”. That means I do have some sad days or depressed days that I have a truly best friend that sort of look out for me and when I’m having a bad day, I have someone here at school to talk to. I often have a day out with my friends or with boyfriend at the weekend. Our favorite places to go were the movies and out to dinner. My father is a person that I can share my trouble of study –because he is a teacher of psychology so he knows a lot of the feeling of students. With my mother, I like to talk about my future and the experiences because she is a perfect idol for me- a success entrepreneur ever! I want to become a woman like my mother in the future but I know I have to learn a lot.
What's my outlook on the future?
From now on, I’m in the Netherland- where I can realize a lot of thing about my personality, my potential, my goal. Started with the graduation in Saxion, having my own idea about the career, my life’s now beginning. I want to find a job in the Netherland- if I lucky enough, then come back to my country and set up my own business. Plus, I want to work for a public relation company or hotel that I can meet a lot of friends around. To meet these goals, firstly I have to complete a study year in Saxion as soon as possible. Prepare myself with a good CV and good confidence. I think I’m in good track, just keep going and do not think negative – this is my success key for my study.

The Dutch Revolt ultimately resulted in the Union of Utrecht, uniting the northern provinces of the Netherlands, until then under the control of Phillip II of Spain. The newly formed Dutch Republic, or United Provinces of the Netherlands, was the wealthiest and most trade engaged nation in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Components like geographic location, economic superiority, and religious toleration led to the vast popularization of the Netherlands. However, this Golden Age was not prolonged. From 1650 to 1713, the Dutch Republic encountered many challenges involving security, unity, and prosperity. These challenges included conflicts with foreign nations, progressive disunity of the provinces, and ongoing trade issues which would lead to the ultimate decline of Dutch success.…

From the middle of the Seventeenth Century to the early Eighteenth Century, the Dutch Republic, which in 1648 had it’s independence recognized in the Peace of Westphalia, was an important commercial and military presence in Western Europe which later experienced challenges to its security, unity, and prosperity: in security, the Dutch faced navel challenges from England and land-based invasions from France; the challenges to prosperity came from the cost of wars and fierce competition to it’s trading empire; in turn, the financial stress caused by war and commercial decline threatened the unity of the Republic, as the financial burden of the wars fell disproportionately on the province of Holland.…

During the Renaissance period of history, many scholars and intellectuals in Europe began appreciating Greek and Roman culture. The reason why was that many believed that the past was the seed of everything that existed during their time, and that it was of the utmost importance to study it. With this, many began learning Greek and Latin dialects, as well as examining Greek and Roman ruins and debris. This importance of examining the history of European culture was then labelled Humanism. Also during the Renaissance period, artists, musicians, and sculptors alike began emerging. The combination of the two created art that was heavily influenced by the Humanistic movement.…

It is an awakening, a revival, and the beginning of a wondrous journey. This was my first day in United States, I felt lonesome and desolate, these emotions were just like a monster that destroyed all my positive thoughts. Language and culture differences made me nervous and frustrated, and also hindered me from being able to integrate into the new environment. I was reticent and apathetic when I first entered school and since I don’t talked a lot, only a few classmates wanted to be close to me. I wanted to have more friends, but I didn’t know what to do so I waited for people to come to me. Apparently later, nobody came up and made friend with me. I realized that waiting was not helpful, stepping up and talking to people could eventually benefited me more than any other things. So I started to open myself to people around me and be affable, communicative, and helpful to them. Gradually, my personality became more outgoing and enthusiastic, some people liked to talk to me and some even wanted to share their ideas, opinions to me. My life is becoming interesting and exciting, everyday I get to know various people and enrich myself by learning from them. My experience of language and culture was just as my social life where I afraid to talk and ask. It was unacquainted in the first time when I asked question to a person in the street. But several times of trying and practicing helped me to be more accessible…

In 1650 the Dutch Republic had become a commercial, financial, and naval powerhouse, which led to other European nations recognizing it as the banking and trading center of Europe. Leading to its commercial success was the monopoly on trade routes in the North Sea. However during the 17th and 18th centuries the Dutch Republic began to decline due to their loss of control in the North and Atlantic Seas and the significant loss of manpower due to European wars. This led to an overall decline of the Dutch as the primary European power. The decline was due to a succession of European Wars, a loss of trade dominance, and general internal discord.…
