Harriett Tubman had rescued many enslaved people after she had escaped from slavery herself in 1849. Two of Harriett's brothers Harry and Ben had escaped with Harriet, but later returned because they were scared of getting
caught but Harriett remained strong and returned her brothers safely home and carried on with her journey. Tubman traveled 90 miles in the under ground railroad into the free state of Pennsylvania. Instead of remaining in the freedom of the north Tubman turned back around and went to rescue her family. In 1850 Harriett had helped her neice Kessiah escape to freedom along with their entire family to Philadelphia. In the years that Harriett was free she made the trip and helped her parents, several siblings and hundreds of others on their way to freedom. One person whom had decided to stay in slavery was Harrietts ex husband who wanted to stay in Maryland with his new wife.
Harriett's earlier life had been hard, she was always a caring girl who had evolved into a powerful women. When Harriett was a teenager she was a the store sent by her slave owners. Another slave was else where without persmission and Harriett was ordered to help get the other slave, when Harriet refused a two pound weight was thrown at her head and Harriet endured serious damage the rest of her life, she fell into deep sleep and would have seizures.
Harriett Tubman Tubman was was a powerful women who changed many people's lives in the 18th century, she helped so many escape slavery and live their lives with liberty and freedom. Harriett Tubman once said "I was the conductor for the underground railroad for eights years, and I can say what many conductors can't say; I neve ran my train off the tracks and I've never lost a passanger." Harriett Tubman died March 10th 1913.
