As a fellow native of the Philippines, I have grown to watch and admire many fellow Filipino celebrities. I have become a fan of many Filipino celebrities not only in the Philippines but also here in the United States. From television shows, movies, to music and even sports; many Filipinos have become an international superstar. Tia Carrere, Bruno Mars, and the great Manny Pacquiao just to name a few are some of the most known filipino superstars today.
Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao, also known as "Manny Pacquiao" was born December 17, 1978, in Kibawe, Philippines. His parents were Dionesia Dapidran-Pacquiao and Rosalio Pacquiao, to which they separated when Manny was in the sixth grade. He was the forth child among six siblings. At a young age, Manny always had a thing for sports like kickball, basketball and especially boxing. At the age of 14, he left his family in order to start training as a boxer in hopes of making it into a career so he could support his family.
In 1995, at the age of 16, Pacquiao stepped into the ring for his first professional boxing match against, Edmund Ignacio. After a unanimoous decision, Pacquiao won the match after the fourth round which made him an instant star. On Dec. 1998, Pacquiao won a match against Chatchai Sasakul of Thailand, taking the World Boxing Council flyweight title, his first major honor. In 2001, Pacquiao won his first U.S. fight for the International Boxing Federation junior weight title against Lehlo Ledwaba.
