Ancestors:
The holy prophet was a direct descendant of hazrat ismail. Quraish was the descendant of hazrat ismail and quraish’s descendant, qussai had the custody to hold the key of kaaba.
Hashim who was qussai’s grandson who was very famous at that time and was the most rich among qussai’s descendants. He traded with foreign countries.
Abdul muttalib was very prominent among the quraish because of 3 things: the restoration of the fountain of zam zam; the dialougue with abrahah; and the bringing up of his orphan grandson.
Abdullah, father of abdul muttalib was married to aminah. On a journey, he stopped at yasrib and fell ill and died. After the death, muhammad was born to aminah on 12th rabi ul awall 571 AD. Someone asked abdul muttalib about the name muhammad so he replied: “i have named him muhammad so that his name can be praised on the heaven and on the earth.”
Conditions of Arabia at the time of the birth of the Holy Prophet:
When the holy prophet was born in makkah, all the people had forgotten their creator and were busy in idol worship. Each and every household had its own idol. Stones and other kind of natural things were also worshipped. Illegal things were performed like drinking, gambling and other. Slaves were treated cruelly. Womens were not getting their rights and people were doing whatever they wanted to.
This period is known as the Age of Ignorance in the arab history.
Birth & Upbringing:
In those days, it was a custom of the arabs to give their infants to bedouin women who would take care of them. Halima Saadia was given charge of the holy prophet. The prophet loved her very much and used to call her “my mother”. When the prophet was 6 years, he was brought back to his mother who took him to yasrib. In between she fell ill and died.
