Rick Riordan is an American novelist who has written a plethora of children’s and adult books. One of his most famous book series is “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”. Most of his children’s books tend to be fantasy, while the adult books are mystery. I chose to write about Rick Riordan because I have personally read the “Percy Jackson Series”, and it is amazing. Rick was born on June 5, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. Rick Riordan Sr. and Lyn Belisle Riordan are his parents. He grew up in San Antonio where he attended Alamo Heights High School. Editing his high school newspaper, his passion for writing grew. Growing up, he wrote short stories that were never successfully published. Rick is married to Becky, and they have two children, Haley and Patrick. His career flourished as he wrote the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”. Although it took him a few years to write, he soon succeeded. Each day, he wrote little pieces of the story, then finally he put the series together. The Percy Jackson Series included these 6 books: “The Lightning Thief”, “The Sea of Monster”, “The Titan’s Curse”, “Battle of the Labyrinth”,and “The Last Olympian”. As time progressed, two of the 6 books were turned into movies. (IMDB Staff 2010) Three years later, “The Sea of Monsters” was made into a movie, also. The creation of the movies increased Rick’s popularity, by bringing young adults to acknowledge his success. Most of the dedicated fans did not like the movies because they were different than the actual stories. Rick has composed 21 books and 3 series. He is an excellent author who has accomplished many …show more content…

("Rick Riordan’s Religion and Political Views") Rick was always interested in mythology, but never thought he would write about it. He has received a large amount of awards during his career. “Big Red Tequila” was presented with three of the most prestigious awards in the mystery genre, including the Edgar, Anthony and Shamus. For the first book of the Percy Jackson Series, “The Lightning Thief”, Rick was given the Mark Twain and Rebecca Caudill award. He received author of the year in 2011. ("Home") Rick’s newest series is “The Kane Chronicles”. Rick is a phenomenal author who has shown that working hard pays off. Rick stated in an interview, “Don’t get discouraged, rejection is part of the process and it hurts.” ("An Interview With Rick") Entertaining children and adults across the world, Rick has accomplished dreams that only a select few have reached. He is a great role model for young writers who want to achieve greatness, and proves that even if you fail, you can always get back up and

For example, when Rick repeats his non-committal, cold, tough guy stance to an offended customer, "I stick my neck out for nobody," it is viewed as an outlaw hero characteristic. He appears to be the dangerous man from a gangster movie, but still promise the "safety and comfort" an official outlaw portrays. With Ilsa back into his life, he helps his love and her husband leave Casablanca at the end. He sacrifices his love to save her from being endangered from the law.
