Biography of Sanjay Lalbhai
Mr Sanjay Lalbhai the denim man of India! Sanjaybhai was born in the Lalbhai family as the fourth generation heir in 1954. He was brought up in the joint family. His mother Pannabahen was running Rachna High School in Ahmedabad. He studied in the same school (today his wife Jayashreebahen is looking after the school). He did B Sc in St Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad and later obtained his Management degree from Mumbai-based Jamunalal Bajaj Institute.
It was understood that he would join his family business after studies. After all, he had imbibed the business acumen from the family. He took his first step by joining the family-owned Anil Forging in 1977 where he worked for one year and a half and later joined Arvind Mill as Purchase Manager. Arvind Mills was established in 1931. It was founded by the three brothers Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Narottambhai Lalbhai and Chimanbhai Lalbhai one of the leading families of Ahmedabad., the flagship company of the Lalbhai Group, is a producer of composite manufacturer of textiles. Its headquarters is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It manufactures a range of cotton shirting, denim, knits and bottomweights (Khakis) fabrics. It is India's largest denim manufacturer [3] apart from being world’s fourth-largest producer and exporter of denim. In the early 1980s, the company brought denim into the domestic market, thus started the jeans revolution in India. Today it not only retails its own brands like Flying Machine, Newport and Excalibur but also licensed international brands like Arrow, Lee, Wrangler and Tommy Hilfiger, through its nationwide retail network. Arvind also runs a value retail chain, Megamart, which stocks company brands.[4][5] The original budget for the company totaled $ 55 thousand, at present it is $ 500 million.
