(Having a conversation)
Mira: Wait who are you?
Sayjal: What..? We were just talking, I am Sayjal!
Mira: No, get away from me! Stop attacking me you’re a monster!
Sayjal: Calm down, I think you have Schizophrenia.
Mira: Hey Sayjal, what are you talking about we were just having a normal conversation, why are you freaking out? Are you okay?
Sayjal: Mira I know that you feel normal right now, but you just had a mental episode. I really think that you need to go to the doctor, because you might have Schizophrenia.
Mira: What is Schizophrenia and why is it so important?
Sayjal: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder which changes a person’s perception of reality. Also, I think you meant why it is important to diagnose Schizophrenia at early stages. Well, 10 percent of those diagnosed with Schizophrenia commit suicide, usually because they want to get rid of the “voices”, and this can be stopped with medications as they alleviate the symptoms of Schizophrenia to such a degree that it’s possible to function and deal with symptoms, such as voice or delusions. In general, if you do not know about your illness you can never get therapy to be able to cope with this which can lead to dire consequences.
Mira: I actually have heard of some of the causes of Schizophrenia but they are not clearly understood or known at this time, as the theory is that there is no single cause. Scientists do not yet understand all of the factors necessary that determine for sure if a person will be affected by Schizophrenia. One of the factors that might cause Schizophrenia that scientists have been researching is genetics. People who have a close relative that has it are more likely to develop the disorder at a 10% chance. Scientists believe that several genes are associated with an increased risk of Schizophrenia not a single gene. People with Schizophrenia tend to have higher rates of rare genetic mutations. Another factor may be a chemical defect in the brain.
