Biometrics Attendance Monitoring System
CHAPTER I
Background of the Study
INTRODUCTION

Attendance is one of the important factors in many institutions and organization that need to be followed by people. It is highly important for one organization in order to maintain their performance standards. Old conventional methods for employees’ attendance are still used by most of the universities or schools like Cabatacan National School in which employee still using the manual DTR that enable them to cheat their own time of arrival and departure of the said institution. As this method is used, many employees are helping their friends by signing in their attendance in case of their absent in the institute.
In this paper we review the various computerized system which is being developed by using different techniques. Based on this review a new approach for employee attendance is proposed by using biometric device to be used for various schools or academic institutes. Biometric technologies is the fingerprint recognition system; by placing a finger on the scanner, it allows the person to time in or out and ensures that employees cannot time in for one another, thereby preventing employee time theft. In other words, instead of requiring personal identification cards, keys or passwords of other person, biometrics can identify fingerprints of an individual for easy and convenient verification. After having these issues in mind we develop a Biometric Attendance Monitoring System or simply called BAMS which serves as an alternate for traditional manual signing process and automates the whole process of taking attendance and maintaining it.
The researcher’s main focus is to come up with a better, more effective and reliable system that would lessen the problem that encountered by the Faculty and staff of the Cabatacan National High School. Because aside from the monthly report, BAMS feature shows the attendance of the individual employee which is absent or late on that particular day, monitor the productivity of

The researchers will create an automated monitoring and attendance system for students using barcode reader. Using the barcode reader, the teacher will have access to the profile of each student, which will be recognized by reading his or her identification card. At the same time, this system will send message to the parents to notify them that their child is within the school premises. Since the students will just put their ID’s direct to the barcode reader, the teacher will have no more hustle in monitoring the attendance of his/her students. Moreover, the school can assure the security of their students because it will recognize the attendance of each student. The parents are also assured of the presence of their child in school. There is a need to develop a new system because of the complaints of most of the teachers about their everyday tasks. The new system will provide an easier process for the teachers in monitoring the students and in notifying the parents through SMS. Therefore, the number of tasks to be done by teachers will be lessened.…

Most educational institutions' administrators are concerned about student irregular attendance. Truancies can affect student overall academic performance. The conventional method of taking attendance by calling names or signing on paper is very time consuming and insecure, hence inefficient. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based attendance system is one of the solutions to address this problem. This system can be used to take attendance for student in school, college, and university. It also can be used to take attendance for workers in working places. Its ability to uniquely identify each person based on their RFID tag type of ID card make the process of taking the attendance easier, faster and secure as compared to conventional method. Students or workers only need to place their ID card on the reader and their attendance will be taken immediately. With real time clock capability of the system, attendance taken will be more accurate since the time for the attendance taken will be recorded. The system can be connected to the computer through RS232 or Universal Serial Bus (USB) port and store the attendance taken inside database. An alternative way of viewing the recorded attendance is by using HyperTerminal software. A prototype of the system has been successfully fabricated.…
