Biomimicry: Biolytix Water Filter By definition, Biomimicry is the process of studying nature’s best ideas and then using them in the industrial world. An idea that already exists in nature is taken and built into a product like the Biolytix Water Filter. Biomimicry has helped make the global market more “green”, or ecofriendly, and has also helped to develop products that solve worldly problems. In this paper, I will be exploring the Biolytix Water Filter, which mimics the job of water basins and the way that natural debris deteriorate on the edge of rivers. The Biolytix System is a waste treatment system. It takes raw sewage, waste water, and food waste and turns it into high quality irrigation water. This system allows the transformation of the water to be done on site rather than sending the water away to be treated. The idea for this system came from a man named Dean Cameron as he studied the way that forest litter decomposed along the beds of rivers. The product mimics the way the debris decomposes. He designed the system to immediately remove solid wastes from the water. Then, the waste is filtered through dirt that house beetles, worms, and microscopic organisms. These organisms turn the waste into an organic fertilizer. The clean water and the fertilizer made by the Biolytix system are then able to be used as an eco-friendly irrigation system. The entire farming industry benefits from the Biolytix system. By using this system, farmers can clean their own waste water and produce their own fertilizer that can be used to give them a more bountiful crop. The system also eliminates the risks that can come with using chemicals to irrigate their crops as the Biolytix Filtration System does not use any chemicals. Because the Biolytix System helps to produce better crops, it also helps the economy. The crops are more appealing to consumers because there are no chemicals used, so more of the crop will be sold. By using the concept of
