Lastly, the examiners noticed that the psychiatrists were prescribing medication according to observation instead of conducting a diagnostic interview (Lim, 2001).
The article by (Lim,2001) was to conduct an examination that would monitor medication prescribing patterns for bipolar disorder patients. Data information for this analysis was retrieved from CQI; this system observed patients who had been admitted to psychiatric units in 31 states from the age of 18 and over. From a numerous group of hospitalized patients, 1,864 were chosen for evaluation. Each patient involved went through an assessment that consists of self and informant report and clinician scale information. The hospital staff was responsible for conducting a medication questionnaire and reviewing patient’s medical records. The survey and medical records helped the staff have a better understanding of which drugs to prescribe. Out of all the patients that were assessed, 1,471 patients were diagnosed with bipolar 1 mania and bipolar 2 depressions (Lim, 2001).
