History of Birla Group
The Birla family is a family of repute and standing in the industrial and social history of India. Shiv Narain Birla, a member of the Marwari Maheshwaricommunity from Pilani in the westerly state of Rajasthan, traded in cotton and laid the foundation of the family's future business success by establishing a trading house in Bombay around 1857. He moved to Bombay around 1857 to establish a trading house. His son, Baldeo Das Birla moved to Calcutta in 1861 to set up his own business.
Baldeo Das was succeeded by four sons - Jugal Kishore, Rameshwar Das, Ghanshyam Das and Braj Mohan.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, the current chairman of the entire Birla group is the son of Aditya Vikram.
The above figure is of Birla Family tree. Birla group was started by Ghanshyam Das Birla (G.D. Birla) who inherited his fortune from his grand father as a marwari business which was lending money against pawned item and later on he diversified it into the several other sectors.
G.D. Birla had 3 sons from her wife Durga Devi – Lakshmi Niwas, Krishna Kumar & Basant Kumar. K.K. Birla had 3 daughters – Nandini, Jyotsna & Shobhana
Basant Kumar had 2 Children – Aditya Vikram, Kumar Mangalam Birla. G.D. Birla’s second brother Braj Mohan Birla had one son – Ganga Prasad who again had two children, a son and a daughter – Chandralekha & Chandrakant.
