The Birth, Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus In Luke, Chapter 2 we learned about the birth of baby Jesus. Caesar Augustus was the ruler at the time, and he had ordered a census of the Roman people. Jesus is the son of Mary and Joseph and the cousin of John the Baptist, whom was born six months earlier and would lead the way for our future Lord and savior. Joseph and Mary had gone from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Bethlehem, also known as the town of David. Mary and Joseph were not married yet, but they had pledged to marry each other. The shepherds came back to see baby Jesus, and they started praising God for all the things they had seen with their own eyes. Everything was exactly as they had were told it would be. On the eighth day, when it was time for the baby to be circumcised they named the baby Jesus. Before conception, the name Jesus was given by the angel. Mary and Joseph took Jesus and presented him to the temple as required by law, and they found Simeon. He blessed them and let them know that this child will be responsible for the rise and fall of many in Israel and that a sword will pierce Mary’s heart as well. As he was being led away by the soldiers, they stopped Simon from Cyrene and made him carry a cross behind Jesus. A lot of people followed included crying women. The soldiers also took two other men to be crucified with Jesus, but they were both criminals(Luke 23: 26-43). I do not know how Jesus could handle all of that pain. It makes me emotional just thinking about him dying for all of our sins including my sins. Moreover, as a parent, I can not imagine the pain that God felt and as the scripture says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”(NIV John 3:16). Personally, I do not like to think about having to do the same thing with my precious son, and I know God loved his son as much as I love my son.
