In the film Birth of a Nation by D.W Griffith, based on the book the Clansmen by Thomas Dixion, Dixon and Griffith both admired the Klan so of course they were going to make the Ku Klux Klan the heroes of their stories. I saw many things that were just straight out shocking. To portray another race of people as a monstrous type of creature is ignorant of him. The film portrays black men as aggressive and feebleminded. Due to the graphic and false views of the film the first chapter of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) began to get involve. In their efforts to ban the film a public hearing was held with the mayor of Boston, But through the struggles of trying to get the film banned for distorting US history and vilification of African Americans. As a result of the hearing only certain sexually suggestive scenes were cut from the film. This film may have shown the world a false belief, as in the reassembly of the Ku Klux Klan. The Klan was dismembers before this film, but after being released the group made a comeback and even giving light to their new attire which includes white robe and hood that they still use in today day age. The American Civil War come between the families as they are on two different sides. The Stonemans are on the Northerner side who supports the Union ,While with the Cameron family supporting the southern Confederacy. On opposing side lines are drawn between the families.
