Operating Systems and Software Applications - Microsoft Windows 8
Introduction
Microsoft has been the world leader with respects to computer Operating Systems Software, and has increasingly become more efficient and precise with each release. Microsoft released their first version of the Windows Software (November 20th, 1985). This operating system was an anomaly at the time, and has progressed to the point that it is used worldwide on most computers in the world. All of the leading competitors have used Windows as a benchmark and have either copied its features or expanded upon them.
This paper presents the latest release from Microsoft; Windows 8 and explains the benefits with this operating system advantages, and disadvantages of the system, and its software applications (Figure 1).

Operating System
An operating system is basically described as “the program that, after being initially loaded into the computer by a boot program, manages all the other programs in a computer” (Rouse, 201). Operating systems and applications help the company reach their goals because it enables their employees to use them as tools to do their jobs more efficiently which can subsequently lead to increased company sales and revenue.
Operating systems are the primary tool that can help the workers be more efficient, by allowing them to use specific software to complete their required tasks.
An operating system that is out dated, can present computer software freeze ups, loss of data, and eventually loss of productivity.
Software Applications
Application software is computer software that is designed to help users perform specific tasks. Applications use the DBMS for four operations: to read, insert, modify,

An operating system (OS) is an interface between hardware and user which is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the resources of the computer that acts as a host for computing applications run on the machine. As a host, one of the purposes of an operating system is to handle the details of the operation of the hardware. This relieves application programs from having to manage these details and makes it easier to write applications. Almost all computers (including handheld computers, desktop computers, supercomputers, video game consoles) as well as some robots, domestic appliances (dishwashers, washing machines), and portable…

The Operating System (OS) is the very most essential software on your computer. Without the OS your computer will not run. It manages all of the hardware and software and gives direct access to the storage, central processing unit (CPU), and memory, so that the programs can work properly. The operating system determines what your computer can or cannot actually do because each OS have different features, options, applications, compatibilities and even the user interface may change.…

Operating systems were not in existence before the 1960s. The definition of operating systems is a program designed to run other programs on the computer and is the most important program. In the past, computers were built to execute a series of single task similar to a calculator. In the 1960s came the MCP (Master Control Program) for the B5000 mainframe computer created by the company Burroughs/Unisys. The MCP was the first OS written exclusively in a high-level language. As the years progressed, OS giants were starting to form such as Windows, Linux, and Mac. In, this paper, these 3 tech OS giants will be examined thoroughly while covering memory management, process management, file management, and security.…

A computers operating system (OS) is the core of the computer and is more than just software. The OS controls the computer’s memory and processes as well as its hardware and software. It is the brain of the computer. Software applications on the other hand perform a certain task. Ex. Google Chrome provides internet and Adobe allows PDF files to be read (among other things). The OS is what makes all of these applications work successfully and accomplish whatever the application is designed to accomplish.…

    3. The impact of the evolution of computer hardware and the accompanying evolution of operating system software is as follow: As experience with a combination of hardware and software matures; users and engineers gain new visions of what they would like to do next. New hardware is usually paralleled by operating system and system software development. The fielding of new systems results in user and operator feedback that leads to operating system and system software improvement. Innovative users try equipment and software for applications not envisioned by the hardware and software vendors. Successes lead to additional sales and use, which leads to further supporting software development. If there is perceived economic benefit, the hardware vendor will seek ways to adapt to the new needs without necessarily sacrificing basic capabilities. Often this consists of creating a more efficient interface.…

Both the operating system and software applications improve the organizations ability to operate in an efficient and effective manner. There are four operating systems which include: Windows, Mac OS, Unix, and Linux. Operating systems handle data that is received, processed, saved, and backed up through application software. According to Kroenke (2012), “for business users, the most important operating system is Microsoft Windows. Some version of Windows resides on more than 85 percent of the world’s desktops and considering just business users, the figure is more than 95 percent” (p. 80). The Mac OS operating systems are primarily used by artists and workers in the arts community. Whereas Unix is used more so in the scientific and engineering communities.…

Microsoft was formed in 1975 by a university drop out in his junior year called Bill Gates. Bill Gates has been successful to achieve the company’s vision, “we want PC on every desk in every home and office”. Microsoft which is a massive company today was only a small company in 1983. It headquarters contained only a small building next to the Burgermaster in Bellevue and another in Seattle suburb. Microsoft was mainly recognized as the producer of BASIC programs for many systems, and of MS-DOS, an operating system which it sold to IBM. Many different companies were working on MS- Dos that time but the main problem was that the computers were incompatible with each other. To solve this issue Microsoft was spending heavily on windows called “interface manager”. The success of entire company was depending on the success of this project. The invention of windows made computers possible to be compatible with each other and the invention opened the doors for Microsoft. It introduced “integrated software” and a number of new “integrated operating environments”, which include windows.…
