Biscayne National Park Essay

Biscayne National Park, founded and established by Dante Fascell in 1980, lies in the waters south of Florida. The park is made up of four ecosystems that include the mangroves, the Florida Keys, the coral reef, and Biscayne Bay. Biscayne National Park is home to large numbers of threatened and endangered species of plants and animals both above and below the water’s surface. Biscayne National Park also protects one of the world’s longest coral reefs and the longest mangrove forest. Biscayne National Park,the largest marine park in the National Park Service, is important because it preserves and protects the fragile marine, plant and animal life in its boundaries. During the 1950’s Florida was becoming very popular, more people were vacationing and moving there. The Florida keys attracted many people, therefore it would be a great place for hotels and many other developments. The winters there are mostly dry but occasionally there will be some wind and rain. During the summer it is hot and humid with occasional thunderstorms, the average temperature during the summer can average from the lower 90s to 80 degrees. In the winter months it averages between the 4o and 60 degrees, the hottest month is July and the coldest month is January and it averages about 54 inches of rainfall per year. Consequently Florida is prone to have hurricanes which happen to be the most violent storm on earth. There has been an abundance of hurricanes within the last 15 years, they have caused millions of dollars worth of damage and have taken many lives.
