The American Literature in William Faulkner’s quote has to due with Justice, and how if people spoke out against injustice we would be able to change the world for the better. In Black Like me, the main protagonist, John Howard Griffin decides to try and see how the African People were living in oppression. While doing this he records his experience and tries to show everyone else how cruel they were being. The idea of American Literature in Faulkner’s quote, Justice, pertains to the events going on in Black Like Me because Griffin is standing up and trying to make a difference even though no one is helping him. Griffin tries to show people what is wrong with how they are treating colored people so that they can make a stand and help colored people be treated as equals.
