The Black Panther party was formed to free the “oppressed people” from their oppressors. Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton created the Black Panther Party for Self Defense on October 15, 1966. Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton met at Merritt College in California. At this time, Seale had been discharged from the Air Force after serving for four years and Newton was a selftaught student at Merritt College.
