Research in Motion Limited (RIM) is a Canada based telecommunication and a wireless equipment developing company mainly known for developing is world famous for its Blackberry smartphones and tablets. Waterloo, Ontario, Canada is where the company has its headquarters. In 22nd January 2012 RIM announced Thorsten Heins as its CEO, the founder Mike Lazaridis who was also the co-CEO with Jim Balsillie both stepped down from their posts. This company is listed in Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada and on NASDAQ stock exchange in USA also.
Research In Motion developed wireless handheld devices and services brand known as Blacberry. Email pager was the first Blackberry device, which was released in 1999. Blackberry shipped its 100 millionth smartphone in June of 2010 and it shipped its 200 millionth smartphone in September of 2012.
Mobile telephone, text messaging, web browsing, push email and other wireless information services were the common features, which were released when the first Blackberry smartphone was launched in 2003. The first smartphone of blackberry was its convergent device. DataTac network was used by the Blackberry’s original device i.e. RIM 850 and 857.
Blackberry concentrated on its email services to make its headaway in the marketplace. Through the company’s Blackberry Connect software, the company also offers its email services to non-Blackberry devices such as Palm Treo.
Although all the current devices of Blackberry have a color display the orignal Blackberry device had a Monochrome display. The storm series and the all touch torch are the only devices that don’t have a built in QWERTY keyboard that was developed only to be used by thumbs. There is a SureType keypad in Storm1 and Storm2 for typing accurately. Prior to its 8700-model device, blackberry used scroll wheel mounted on the right side of the device for system
