Although not very important, I took the liberty this past month(Black History) to document my research to the age old question, "Was Jesus Black," after a small debate with my auntie Angelina Quarterman arguing that He was a Jew, and Jews are White(lol). The typical Hollywood image in which ancient Israelites look like fair-haired White Americans is way off the mark. The people of the bible were Semitic(Afro-Asiatic languages) and would have been dark- skinned. The racial emnity & equating Black with evil was an unfortunate development in later Europe, devised in part to justify African slavery.…
‘Black~Codes’ were legal statutes and constitutional amendments enacted by the ex~Confederate states following the Civil War that sought to restrict the liberties of newly freed…
Men In Black II by Robert Gordon explores the idea that the government is a shady and dim group. In Gordon’s story, aliens are brought into Earth from a spacecraft, and soon face the challenges of adapting to society. Serleena, a Kylothian queen discovers an occupation to take advantage of her abilities. Her shape shifting power gives her the ability to improve and transform herself to the highest possible degree of beauty to become a supermodel and seduce men. Other aliens find different occupations and lifestyles such as Scrad & Charlie, who becomes a villain, and an alien name Jack Jeebs who becomes a pawn shop owner. Humans throughout the novel fail to acknowledge their existence, and for the ones who witnessed and believe they exist are brought to an interview with the Men In Black and are soon given a flash by a neuralyzer. The Men in Black commonly use it to erase any traces of memory from the encounter with the alien. Any human that could benefit the Men In Black however, don’t face subject to become neuralyzed and are brought into the Men In Black facility. In the final chapters of the story the Men in Black push to great lengths to erase the memory of the people of New York City who have faced the catastrophic events with the aliens, they build a giant neutralizer into the Statue of Liberty and set it off. The lives that the aliens possess and the actions Men in Black take expresses postmodernism. The idea that the world we live in now is corrupt and any knowledge of the unknown is to be quarantined or…

My plan for conducting interviews with the Black house kids in Chicago started with my key co-collaborator, Dxxxx Pxxxxx, who is a well-known and highly respected presence in the house community. I knew that he would provide the entry point for where to conduct my spatial observations of the spaces that the house kids used for their social gatherings. This led to combining my snowball sample technique that Dxxxxx helped oversee as well as the house kids that stood out at the party selected for my fieldwork, for various reasons, during my first observational study at the Underground Wonder Bar. Thus, I developed a master list of names and checked off who was present at the party that I could speak with as follow up. After my participant observation…
In the Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator is unnamed, but he is the main character and the most important character in the story. As the story develops, the narrator develops. The narrator is dynamic and makes the story dynamic.…
Joseph Black was born in Bordeaux on 16 April 1728, one of fifteen children. His father was John Black, an Ulster wine merchant of Scots descent based in Bordeaux (presumably for obvious reasons), and his long-suffering mother, Margaret Black, was from Aberdeenshire (also a member of a wine-trading family). When he was twelve, young Joseph was sent off to school in Belfast to learn Latin and Greek, and subsequently, aged 16, enrolled at Glasgow University in 1744 to study arts. After four years of this, his father persuaded Joseph to take up something more useful, so he chose…
Before the discovery of Australia, all the world had never seen a black swan before. An impossible accomplishment in someones life before this time was referred to as “ a black swan.” The mere sight of one black swan after the discovery of Australia negated the thousands of years of sightings of white swans and thinking they were the only species of swan. This generalization that was put on the term “black swan” before the british occupation of Australia is just an example of the illustration of the human mind and how one sighting can alter the mindset of thousands of years of thinking.…
The Black Prince by Iris Murdoch is a twisted story full of drama and scandals with each character more complex than the next. It is often simple to pick apart and make assumptions about a novel’s protagonist. In the case of The Black Prince it is clear to see that the main character and first person narrator is in fact a repressed homosexual. Throughout the novel he faces many challenges to his gender and sexuality and although the stories, “clown” Francis Marloe suggests this many times during the book it is overlooked. Bradley’s sexuality affects many aspects of the novel for many reasons.…
The Black Prince is structured as Pearson’s apologia to his editor and friend P.A. Loxias. This allows Murdoch to address an audience directly, pausing for philosophical musings, without engaging in the post-modern trick of acknowledging the reader. Loxias and Pearson both write forewords to the main text. Pearson and four other characters offer competing postscripts. Two deny Loxias’s existence. This fulfills early premonitions about Pearson’s unreliability as a narrator. The first significant piece of dialogue shifts “I may have just killed my wife” to “I may have just killed Rachel” in the first twenty pages. Similar inconsistencies arise throughout.…
