In this book Jay Berry Lee, the main character, is put to the task of catching monkeys in the middle of the Ozark bottoms. The Ozark hills are in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Throughout the story Jay Berry has shown his love and thankfulness for his grandparents. Like when he thanked his grandpa for helping him and when he chose the pony but remembered and figured out what his grandpa meant by saying to wait and talk it over with his mom and that he should give the money to his sister to pay for the fixing of her leg. He also tells us what as a boy he wanted, like the pony, 22., his sister’s leg fixed, and to be like all other boys.…

My favorite book is Speak written by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is based on high school freshman Melinda Sordino. The August before her freshman year, her and her closest friends attend a party containing seniors and beer. Melinda gets drunk and eventually walks outside to take a breath where she meets upcoming senior Andy Evans. After making Melinda uncomfortable by dancing with and kissing her, Andy pushes Melinda to the ground and rapes her. She calls 911 and gets the party broken up, but is too scared to speak up about being raped. Everyone finds out that she is the reason the party was busted, and her friends no longer speak to her. Throughout the story, Melinda faces the realities that are associated with being raped. She is now…
Summer ball by Mike Lupica, Mike Lupica is one of the authors that I half way enjoy reading his books as I don't like too read that much. So summer ball involves Danny Walker as Richie Walker's so the famous basketball guy in Middletown. The book involves Danny and a bunch of his basketball friends from middle town going out to one of the biggest basketball camps in Maine. At this basketball camp there are kids that are coming from all over the United States to show how good they are and to improve there skills. Danny and three of his basketball buddy's from his team arrive and are get settled into the camp, now at lunch time they draw the teams they are going to be on for the month they will be there. Danny's luck of the draw just happened to be Ed Powers who tried to get his dad…
I read the book what Happened to Cass McBride. It was a very good book that keeps you on your toes. What I liked most about it though was that you would never expect what happens in the end of the story. I also like that the main character who stayed strong through the whole book and it teaches people who read this, that just when you think it’s over, it’s really not. This is one of my favorite books that I have read.…
I could not put down the book Gym Candy by Carl Deuker. It is a great book about sports and truly displays the life of a football player and what some people are willing to do to become great. The main character in my book is Mick Johnson and ever since he was three he was striving to be great football player like his father was. But no matter how much effort he displays on the field or in the gym he always comes up short.…

One of my favorite books is Point Guard, by Mike Lupica. This book is about a girl named Cassie who has been the best at sports her whole life. She played softball and girl’s basketball, but her team always won. Eventually she got tired of everything being easy, so she decided that she was going to play on the boy’s basketball team this year. Her friend Gus Morales doesn’t know what to think of this. He doesn’t know if or why he is against a girl playing with boys. Throughout the season Gus has to resolve a fight with Cassie and deal with a teammate who makes from his Dominican Heritage. This book is my favorite because I can relate it to my life when I used to play boy’s basketball and baseball. It was also just written recently, so some…
Hope Solo My Story By Hope Solo, was written to entertain the reader. The main purpose of this book was to get Hope’s story out there so she sounds like a mean person with no feelings. Hope Said some things that were rude about one of her teammates because she wasn't started in an important game. Hope had a meltdown and he could be one of the reasons she wrote this book. Hope was upset and embarrassed the whole entire team. Her teammates hated her and the girl who she thought she was close to back stabbed her. Hope took a break and hoped things would get better. The latter did after the head coach was fired and replaced with Pia. Pia was an upbeat coach she sung to us during practice and was always happy.…
Stephen Oates, in a creative and interesting way, brings us an accurate portrayal of an extraordinary fictional character, in a very real and extraordinary time in our country’s history.…
Another aspect of the book that really captured my attention was how Nick’s father applied pressure on him to succeed in basketball. At first, this pressure really inhibited Nick’s ability to play good basketball. However, as he became used to the pressure and…
Blake could have followed his older brother’s footsteps and created a much better life for himself. The narrator describes Blake as being a strong willed boy. As I read through “A Brother’s Murder,” I realize Blake just didn’t have the courage the narrator had to move to a completely different state and leave his old life behind. Understandably, Blake was intimidated by the rest of the world and realized he could prove his manhood and courage by staying in Chester and proving himself. Culturally, I realized the different attitudes people have to different…

My personal BHAG goal is to become a successful businesswoman. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always thought about being a businessman just like my father who is my idol and hero. In my perspective, businessmen are the persons who push the society moving forward although in pursue of profits. Their wisdom, their capacity of organizing and coordinating things, and their insight to the market attract me and make me want to be a businessman.…
