Abstract
My Rhetorical Analysis is about smoking Tipalet how I feel about this ad I found a web site it’s about a man blowing smoke in a women face. Making the image seem like the women is less than a man in this ad that if you blow smoke in a women face she will fall for you because of the smoke.

My vintage ad is about a man and women standing face to face looking into each other’s eyes. While the man holds a Tipalet it’s delicious in taste and the aroma of the puff in her direction and she’ll follow you anywhere. The man is dress in an all black suite while the women have a two strip dress on leaning in toward the man. The message that this ad is saying is if you buy Tipalet just buying it the aroma alone will have women following you anywhere you go.
This is quite impressive by showing the man and women figure in this ad show the audience the power of their product. It show the sex appeal of the man and the women while smoking to elaborate it a little more the man blows smoke in her face so she can follow him anywhere he want to. The message is mostly going toward a man to buy their product and if they do all they have to do to get a woman is to have their Tipalet and go up to her and blow in her face and she will be all yours.
The ad give you the oppression of coolness and power over a women that’s if you by their product. It give the audience a image of you, and you can be just like this guy if you get their product you can get any girl you want. “Blow in Her face and she’ll follow you anywhere” it tells the public to go around and blow smoke in women face because back in the late 1848 women were inferior to men in many ways. Women and their children seemed to be owned by the father and husband. The laws brought over from Great Britain, seemed to be the reason for these laws. Women did not have any property rights and once she was married, she was no longer allowed to own land, could not keep the money she earned for herself and was not allowed the care and control of her children. A man was able to sell the family farm, take all the money for himself, and leave his wife and children behind with nothing. Also, if a man died without writing a will, his wife was not able to inherit anything, including any of the money she may have earned herself, or the land she had owned before her marriage. To wrap up everything what this ad is really say is men will rule over the women. The man have the last saying for everything and the women have to follow what he say.

    One of the rhetorical appeals used quite frequently is Pathos. Pathos is the way the author or in this case Old Spice tries to play with our emotions. The most obvious emotion in this commercial is humor. For example, the way the crazy-stalker mom is following her son around everywhere by riding in a laundry basket attached to her son’s car, highly unlikely but very entertaining and quite funny. People love anything that makes them laugh and Old Spice definitely played that up when those depressed mothers were wailing about their sons leaving them behind and growing up by going out with girls and leaving their chores behind. Another thing that is used as pathos is how relatable it can be for those overbearing mothers and their sons. Some men must see this commercial and think back to when they were teenagers who just wanted to get away and grow up, and even those boys that are currently going through this with their own mothers. Even I am sucked in to all the hype that is Old Spice, and I could just imagine what my seven year old brother with have to go through with my mom. Yikes!…

    The screeching cry of a lost child sounds across the entire building through the crowd of people after a young boy is alone for only a minute. This image comes from an advertisement which includes a gloomy setting showing the sadness of something to appeal to the audience’s emotions. The “Quit Smoking” commercial, produced by Fiona Sharkie, starts with a mother and her child walking together through a crowd of people; toward the middle of the video, the mom and her child get separated making the child very upset and scared. The sadness of the child makes parents feel guilty for possibly leaving their children for good. This advertisement does not use logos because smokers do not often look at logic or they would not smoke to begin with because the box of cigarettes exclaims that smoking causes cancer; therefore, logos would not persuade this specific targeted audience. This advertisement uses pathos and ethos to target parents that smoke and smokers who plan to have kids in the future. Although this commercial does not use logos, it still conveys the message that parents do not want to leave their children alone, due to death, successfully using two other rhetorical strategies to persuade smokers to quit smoking.…

    On Youtube, when looking at videos you have to watch ads before you can enjoy the video you want to watch. I saw the commercial for Old Spice deodorant when browsing Youtube’s videos and thought it was a very effective advertisement, it is very fast paced and always changing so it makes the viewer concentrate and pay more attention to the commercial. The advertisement is based around the spokesperson, who is a man telling the audience that all women would prefer him over their man. He says the next best thing to having him as your man is having your man smell like him. The commercial spends thirty three seconds trying to convince the viewer that if you buy its companies body wash or deodorant and use it to smell like the man on the screen you will be able to do the ridiculous things he is capable of doing.     Old Spice is the creator of the ad. I do not perceive him/her as credible for the advertisement. It would be hard to believe that if I smelled like Isaiah Mustafa, AKA “the Old Spice Man”, I would be instantly able to do the things that he does in the commercial such as: for example, log rolling, walking on water, or jumping a waterfall into a hot tub, and coming out riding a motorcycle (just to name a few). The ad does not offer reasonable grounds for anything that is mentioned such as if your man smelled like him he could bake a gourmet cake in such a “dream home” he built with his own bare hands. He is making the audience believe that “’anything is possible” if you smell like him, like suddenly appearing on a rolling log from a dock on the beach, and then walking across water to a kitchen. The ad is trying to persuade you into buying the Old Spice product, by insinuating you will instantly become the “man of her dreams”. Though the commercial was funny, the reason why I think it’s not credible is because it is so obvious and unrealistic.…

    Susan Bordo describes the ways men can alter an advertisement, and how the way they dress and behave in the advertisement can change the perception of them.
