Powerful people surround us every day. People who have may have more money than us, people that have more knowledge or people who simply just have more power. Since there are so many people like this around us, we often believe that since they consume so much power, that it is impossible for us to have any. However, anyone can be powerful. Alice walker said, “The most common way people give up their power, is by thinking they don’t have any,” which is exactly true. Anyone can have power, people who believe they can will, and people who believe they can’t have power, won’t This idea is shown through the novel, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, when a farm of animals are not willing to succumb to being overpowered any longer and revolt against their owner, Mr. Jones. The pigs are the animals that ran the revolt because they wanted power and were determined to get that. So instead of being treated unfairly, they set a plan, followed through and gained power over Mr. Jones by fighting two battles against him, of course with the help of all the other animals. They did not give up their power and since they believed they had power, they gained it. Although, some of the things they did to reach their power was wrong like, killing, lying, stealing and manipulating, they still reached their main goal, which was to have power. Although, the pigs were strong minded and got what they wanted, Boxer, the animal that seemed to be most moral and thoughtful, did not believe he had power. Not only did the pigs take over Mr. Jones, they took over boxer as well. Boxer did not want to fight for power. He did not think power was worth the battle and wanted to live content. He gave his power up to the pigs because he did not think he had any, and lost his life. However, this shows the pigs immense will to get power and represents the reality that anyone can have power as long as they think they can have it. Therefore, anyone that wants power and is willing to
