Blues For Mister Charlie By James Baldwin
The title of the play is called “Blues For Mister Charlie.” James Baldwin gives this play this title because he is leaving a message to the readers and that message can be interpreted in different ways. How I interpret the title is that I think Mister Charlie is referring to the white folks in white town. Blues is a type of music that black American uses as a way to express their feeling and emotions that can’t be expressed through words. The emotions of sadness, melancholy, and depression that African American are feeling can only be express through the Blue style of music. The title of the play is referring to the sorrows that the white folks are facing rather than the black folks it's like a table turn because they are living their life

I’m his friend. I can’t betray him. Even if he says yes, it won’t make any difference. The jury will never convict him ( Baldwin, Act 1 Page 42-43).” Parnell seems like he wanted to help both side but he is like in between both white and black town. He isn’t seeing the situation as to who is right and who’s wrong but he wants to help Meridian since he is his friend, but he couldn’t tell Meridian in a straightforward manner because Parnell doesn’t want to betray his friend Lyle. Even though he told Meridian that he won’t betray his friend, however Parnell is already leaving a hint that Lyle was the one who killed Richard when he was talking to Meridian. He said that in his conversation with Meridian to show that he did try to help his friend out but if he doesn’t get the clue then it's not Parnell fault since he did try to help him out by telling him in a way that is not clear but could be understood in a way of knowing who murder his son Richard. Why did Parnell help Meridian in the first place? Yet they are friends but Parnell is from the white town shouldn’t he help the white folks rather than Meridian who is a colored folk in blacktown? Why Parnell who is white has a different view points toward color folks then how the white folks view the colored
