Buckminsterfullerenes or buckyballs are the next step in finding the cure to cancerous tumors. Buckyballs are made out of nano tubes and look like a spider-web stuck together to form a ball. They were discovered on accident when scientists were trying to vaporize carbon. The unnamed atom product was appealing to the eye so they did further research. Based on their shape, buckyballs were named after an American architect Buckminster Fuller who built dome shaped buildings similar to the eye as buckyballs. Are there other uses buckyballs can be used for?…

Barkerville is one of the most, if not the most well known historic towns in British Columbia. It was the largest town in the Cariboo, conveniently located on the western edge of the Cariboo Mountains. It grew rapidly, before suddenly becoming almost forgotten, with a ghost town emerging in its place. How could such a thriving town, that was so full of life, be forgotten, to be allowed to die??The tale of Barkerville began with a young sailor form England; Billy Barker. After some time searching, he finally struck it rich in eighteen- sixty two when he uncovered gold in Williams Creek in the Cariboo area. The news of his finding spread like wild fire, and miners flocked to the area, hoping that they too might strike it rich. The miners travelled to the area and found the town newly christened as…

Fanny Balbuk lived on her life from the year 1840-1907 with pride. She was a strong and courageous woman of the Noongar people and is never afraid to be herself. Born in the early years of the settlement of the British, Balbuk has never turned away from her cultural beliefs during the colonisation. Though everything around her was slowly getting wrong, she still continued life as an Aboriginal. She still continued gathering eggs and caught turtles and crayfish. The BCS, Bowl Championship Series, has existed in NCAA football since 1998. Created in hopes of eliminating the controversy, the BCS is set to make proper computer rankings of teams based on strength of schedule, games won, and “style” points. Style points are how bad a team has beaten another team, or how much domination the team displays over an opponent. Undefeated season from any team within a BCS conference can guarantee a spot in the National Championship game in January. The BCS conferences include the ACC, Big Ten, Big East, Pac-12, SEC, and the Big 12. All of the other conferences, represented in the NCAA, are called mid-major conferences, and they contain the MAC, WAC, Mountain West, etc. To obtain…

Through out one of the greatest Christmas stories of all time, it is easy to find the symbolism through the book, A Christmas C’arol. But one of my personal favorite symbolism is what the man Bob Cratchet represents along with his horrible relationship with Scrooge. The only character you feel more for Bob Cratchet is his son tiny tim. Through the first arc of the story, all you can really think of is how the mean Ebenezer Scrooge treats poor Mr. Cratchet. But what does this sad man represent. Well he represents the lower middle classes and is a symbol of how they are treated by their upper classes. But as the story kept moving we learned that there was still hope. lt is not hard to relate to the sad story of Bob Cratchet. Though he is an incredibly…

My first problem was the ghost of Darius. I think that he came in anger. I had done this miserable thing to my copy of Aeschylus’ Persians – I had given it a fringe of those little yellow flags whose purpose it is to destroy the appearance of any fine-looking book. I had been assigned one of the first papers I'd write here, and I am sure that wanted to hold off for another moment that unspooling experience by scrambling to organize what happily bedevils the highlighting and underlining eye. I made several pages of very neat, probably very pallid notes. The thing I was going to make was due soon. The writing of it had to start now, if not the day before. I felt – and still I feel this way – as though I were sprawled out on the ground, groping at the ankles of people running quick to somewhere I don't know. I am trying to trip something that won't fall, and make it lay still with me in the dirt, where I can't see much of anything, and everything confused.…

This is an entertaining book for younger readers that poses the question "What is the hokey pokey really all about?" I think young children will laugh at the illustrations of all the various animals dancing the hokey pokey. The book has a good message at the end that reveals that it is all about having fun together which is a good message for students. I might read this book to preschool or kindergarten students and let them dance the hokey pokey for a wiggle break or have it in my classroom library.…

I am a High School Varsity Cheerleader. Yes, one of those girls who prisses around in a short skirt, ponytail bobbing from side to side and a grin the couldn't possibly get any bigger. I might be recognized as a bobbsy air head who stands on the side lines, looks pretty while only responding to the commands "Ready? Ok!" Well, believe it or not I'm not one of THOSE girls. I'm just like every other athlete breaking a sweat to become the best. My senior year of high school I made the Varsity Cheerleading squad. If that wasn't enough I wanted more. I wanted to be the person every girl envied. I wanted to be the captain. If that were to happen I had to prove that I was a well rounded girl who excelled at being responsible, has dedication, teamwork,…

I was dazzled and confused on what reason my parents had to say know. Truth was that at the moment , I didn’t care much about my parent’s ruling and opinion. I was going to break the rules and run anyway; yet another problem confronted me. The only time I could run without my parents was from 6 to 6:45, which was two hours earlier than I intended to do originally. Yet besides this determination was the only thing on my mind; so, I set my alarm for 5:55, put my phone to charge, and went to sleep with the face of a champion. BEEP BEEP BEEP. I grabbed my phone and snoozed the alarm before anyone else in the house heard it and woke up. I got out of bed, changed my clothes, and went down the stairs with the skill and grace of a trained ninja. Only one part left, the squeaky door. I eyed and stared it down, threatening it with my mind; after a few hopes and threats, the door opened without a noise and I closed it behind me. After the door closed, I looked outside, took a deep breath, and…

I was almost labeled a hamster killer. The first pets i got were dwarf hamsters. I went to petsmart with my mom and picked out two hamsters that were supposedly both girls, but one ended up being a boy. One's name was Caesar and the other Felipe. They weren’t always the nicest, but that didn’t make me love them any less. There was this one time that both of my dwarf hamster's got out while i was at school. My mom told me when i got home that she closed the door to my bedroom because they had escaped. I searched everywhere in my room for them. One hamster was under my bed and the other under my sister's bed since we shared a room at the time. Hamsters always find a way to get into the hardest places to find them in. I caught the one under my sisters bed and he was fine. When i went to get the other one out something funny, but sad happened. I have bins with wheels on them that i would roll under my bed and store stuff in. I had to roll the one under my bed out to see where the hamster was because i couldn't find her. So, as im doing this my mom came in the room to see if i had caught them. I was rolling the bin out as i saw something flat squashed on the floor…
