There were many things that were symbolic of coming of age in the first part last. One of them was the red balloon At first glance it may not seem like much ,nia handing bobby a balloon, but it has many different meanings. Before we get to deeper meanings of the balloon we have to start with the basics. The ballon is red, which most people connect with love and compassion. This symbolizes nias love for bobby. But it also symbolizes the elephant in the room, her giving him the baby because love comes with a baby which we established the red balloon symbolizes. Next it also symbolizes nia handing off her childhood to bobby for the…

I chose “The Catcher in the Rye” authored by Jerome Salinger because I feel it represents coming-of-age thoroughly although with a twist. Holden Caulfield, the main character, experiences the same feelings and maturing and transitioning perception of society that, mostly, any 16-year-old would. It focuses around Holden’s insight of adolescence and the way he apprehends people’s behaviour and judgements. Published and based in the 50s, the moralities have not changed much.…

The red balloon that Nia hands over to Bobby symbolizes her childhood in this novel. I chose this because balloons are something that make little kids happy, and also a second reason is that she is still a kid/teen and she wants that kid side back. my third reason is a balloon will float away if you let go so try to have a tight grip and don't let anything in between. The balloon could symbolize as love or being mean, but Nias childhood is mostly over now that she is having a baby. When you are about to deal with a hard situation like Nia and Bobby you have to mature, and that is very difficult when you are only fifteen or sixteen. This is important because it shows maturity.…

A main characteristic and cause of immaturity is the overuse and dependence on imagination. This is displayed in children but also in Toby Wolff’s memoir This Boy’s Life. Toby frequently uses his imagination as both an escape and a shield from the harsh reality of his own current status. As a child, Toby would utilize his creativity to picture himself living a successful lifestyle instead of the poverty he was raised in. Even as he grew older, Toby would never be able to see himself anyway other than the identity he created for himself. Because Toby uses his creativity to re-invent a persona for himself in whatever way that pleases him, he does not ever truly consider the further consequences of his actions, contributing to his lack of foresight…

In all based coming of age stories, they have similar styles and forms that they are written in, Out Stealing Horses by Per Peterson is a book about coming of age, Though, instead of having the character start off in his early years, they start off with the character’s old years. A 67-year-old man who has isolated himself from the world only to have flashbacks and memories of his younger self, that brings him back to the grief and loneliness he thought he has forgotten about. There are many differences between maturity and adulthood. One large difference between maturity and adulthood is that maturity isn't age specific. Adulthood is signified by the persons age and how they grew up physically. Maturity is a mental thing and doesn't necessarily always come with age.
