This is a direct impact on self-esteem and body image. The health risks can result in binge-eating or extreme weight control behaviors in later years (Naylor, 6). Social media pressures girls to strive to be thin and this results in comparison of your bodies and the need to be as thin as what they see online. These stereotypes are just another contributor to the sinful world that we live in. We need to learn to accept our bodies and the way that God made us, in his own image. The only judgment that matters is the Lord’s. Girls and boys have to do what they need to get away from wanting to change themselves just because social media says they have to, whether it means deleting social media or not. In addition to the body image problem, teens are also affected by social media with depression. This dilemma affects relationships and one's self esteem. Cyberbullying often leads to depression, anxiety, or committing suicide. If cyberbullying is this big of a deal, then why do people take part in it? Some cyberbullying is caused by anger, revenge, or just plain boredom. Cyber bullies also do this to make them feel better about themselves (Stop Cyberbullying, 3). Dr. Martyn Wild says, “Cyber-bullying is poised to turn into the biggest online concern, already affecting up to 35% of all children”. Kids who have done nothing harmful to anyone are being targeted just for fun. Some cyberbullies don’t even realize how much they are affecting that person's life. Even if you are just saying something that you shouldn’t about someone online is cyber bullying, no matter how much it hurts them. There are always consequences for cyberbullying. You could be suspended from school, or kicked off a sports team, and there are even legal consequences (Consequences of Cyberbullying, 4).
