Boeing Australia Limited (BAL)
Part 1 – Executive Summary
I am Russell Menere, the National Procurement Manager for Boeing Australia Limited (BAL)., my decision is to recommend that BAL pursue a cost effective e-procurement system that will interface with the legacy information technology systems that are already in place. This tool should simplify the procurement processes across the different divisions of BAL and support the complex interfaces BAL’s suppliers and customers require.

Based on a 6 month to a year setup and implementation process BAL at a cost of AD $995,000.
BAL should be able to reduce costs, decrease lead times, have less duplication and errors as well as be able to co-ordinate with suppliers and customers throughout the procurement procedures. BAL should also work on the continued reduction of suppliers as well as

maintaining and improving relationships with Key suppliers.

A new system would also allow them to look into new ways to purchase products from their suppliers to get the best prices available. Like reverse auctions or group buying with the Boeing
Parent Company.

The range of hours required for planning, piloting, deployment, and support would run 208-296 hours with a cost of $35,000-$50,000 in contractor fees. The architecture of this solution would require 9 to 12 weeks for a single systems architect to implement. It will require the leasing of datacenter resources in a virtual environment with variable costs depending on scale utilizing their fiber backbone to deliver content online. This is to avoid the high cost of on premise servers and bandwidth required by these solutions.…

Airline manufacturers must compete with one another to be successful, and have the most birds in the sky. Boeing and Airbus are the two largest manufacturers for commercial aircraft, especially those used for long flights. Iberia Airlines wanted to purchase up to 12 brand new jumbo jets from one of these manufacturers. Enrique Dupuy, Iberia’s CFO, set a price that he wanted the company to pay for the aircraft and then started a bidding war between the two super jumbo jet manufacturers.…

A key component of efficient processing is electronic procurement technology, which promotes resourceful utilization of services (Boshoff, 1997). Furthermore, technology has proven to create more value for the customer by being more accessible, efficient, faster and affordable. How? Service design has been enhanced by software, which is utilized by home and office computers, potentially serving as a reasonable or good substitute for personal service (Boshoff, 1997). This begins as a thread in the planning process and continues to be woven until the final destination. However, any system can be plagued with inadequacies, discrepancies, and operational inefficiencies. Still, one must remember not everyone is programed for the electronic…

The fact is that for its nonstrategic purchases, there were about 50000 suppliers, against 10 for the vertical purchases. This number is very excessive and should have never been reached. And this is even more worrying that these suppliers represent about 2 billion euros in 2002. Something very interesting is also that these figures are not exact because the IT system and the multiplicity of the suppliers do not allow to measure the exact amount of the expenditures.…
