The first advantage that Boies possesses is that he is a good listener. As a boy, Boies has dyslexia which made reading abstruse and he was able to start reading during third grade. During his school years, Boies developed his listening skills because if his reading skills were not good, listening what a person said who allow Boies to understand what they meant. As a lawyer, listening is key in the court because this would allow the opposing lawyer to be successful in his cross examination of the other side’s witness. The other advantage is that in addition to be a superb listener, he is able to read a person’s tone and pace allowing him to attack the witness during a trial. An example of Boies reading a person’s pace and tone is during the Schwarzenegger vs Hollingsworth case when Boies was able to destroy the opposing side’s main witness, David Blankenhorn who is an activist in gay rights.
