They were unsure of what the outcome could be. They had suspicions that when it was dropped it would ignite the atmosphere, and if it was being underestimated, it could have blown up our entire world. Why is it that they took a risk so great as to destroy possibly all of mankind, just for the sake of bragging rights to the new nuclear weaponry? This issue proves that they were not thinking this plan through. By following through so irrationally, it gave the United States a bad name. The United states spent a total of approximately 2 billion dollars on 3 bombs. 20 years later this would be the equivalent of an entire federal budget. By spending all of our money on this, we were putting ourselves at high risk. With other countries now knowing that our economy was doing poorly, they could have seen it as the perfect opportunity to invade. Another issue is that we could have tried other tactics in order to attempt to find another solution. For instance, we could have tried other tactics such as blockading their ports or something less destructive, while still getting the point across and the job done. There also could have been a non-military demonstration. If we really wanted to just show the world our new weapons, we could have sent war leaders somewhere remote and detonated it to prove our point just as well. They were working on nuclear weapons at the time, so we were in a race to try to beat them to it so they would not take over. However, during the war, it was clear they had given up on their research. Was it even necessary for us to carry on with ours if they had stopped? No, after this we were doing it as a means for ourselves, not to save anybody. Overall, the atomic bombs should not have been dropped. Especially on
