Book of Revelation chapter 20

Ch. 20:1: The scene here is from heaven to earth as an angel comes down to earth having the key and a great chain with him; the key refers to access; to open access or to grant access to – thus access is granted to this angel to bind Satan.
V. 2-3: These two verses describe the following:
1. The Description of Satan: “Dragon, serpent of old, the Devil, and Satan – Gen. 3:1.”
2. The Place in which Satan is bound: “the bottomless pit or abyss the place of the demon hordes that came upon the earth to torment mankind for 5 months (9:1-12).”
3. The length of the time he is bound: “he is bound for 1000 literal years”.
4. The purpose he is bound: “that he should not deceive the nations any more until the 1000 years were ended.”
5. The promise of his being bound: “until the 1000 years is finished.”
6. The promise he will be again loosed: “he must be released after 1000 years are completed.”
V. 4-6: The thrones that John saw are suggested to referring to the Church Age believers as they are seated on throne and judgment was granted to them. There is another group John saw at this time, all those who had been beheaded for their witness of Jesus during the great Tribulation, because they had not worshiped the beast and they had refused to take the mark of the beast – for this they were beheaded – they suffered martyrdom for their faith in Jesus – these are the tribulation or post tribulation believers.
John mentions this group as living and reigning, this means that they have been given their new bodies and they reign with the Messiah for 1000 years.
V. 5-6: This verse is talking about all those who have died in “Unbelief” during the Great Tribulation and the Millennial Kingdom! Those all are blessed who are raised during the first resurrection because during the second resurrection all the wicked dead are going to be raised and all of them are going to be perished in hell forever.
V. 7-9: Satan will be loosed upon the earth

In this description we see another connection to the Old Testament, “These OT allusions are used to indicate that Christ is the true Israel and the divine ‘Amen, the faithful and true witness’ to his own resurrection as ‘the beginning of the new creation of God’, in inaugurated fulfillment of the Isaianic new creation prophecies” (Beale 297). Once this connection is made then John shifts to Christ’s complaint pertaining to the Laodicea church. He claims they are lukewarm and “the church in Laodicea ay have seemed notably successful to the outside observer, and was itself blind to its own spiritual ineffectiveness” (Hemer190). This shows that the judgment was not passed on the Laodicea church for being unenthusiastic but instead due to their work. They a poor in their work of enduring and resistant witness, due to allowance of secular practices to seep into their religious belief system. Christ repeatedly labels the city as things that contradict what the city is, for instance he calls the city…

Satan’s soliloquy in Book 4 develops his character through self-reflection, elucidating his many complex characteristics and emotions. While Satan is portrayed as a rather humane protagonist thus far, his motives, beliefs, and fears are not explained and thus, only allowed for a one-dimensional interpretation. During Satan’s soliloquy in Book 4, however, he finally reflects upon himself, revealing his motives, fears, and doubts and thus, enriching his character.…

Satan, and bound him a thousand years, (3) and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him...” (Revelations 20:2-3) Satan is a created being, an archangel (a higher angel) to be more specific. He was created in a state of perfection as seen in Ezekiel 28:15, “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” Dualism teaches that these two opposing forces, God and Satan, have equal power in their…

There are countless portrayals of John the Baptist and the representation of his relationship to Jesus and to the Church. John has been one of the saints most frequently appearing in Christian art. The Baptism of Christ was one of the earliest scenes from the life of Christ to be frequently depicted in Early Christian art. John's tall, thin, and bearded figure is already established and recognizable by the 5th century. In the Gospel of Luke, we are first introduced to him when Mary goes to tell her cousin, Elizabeth, the news of her pregnancy. Elizabeth, already six month’s pregnant, felt the unborn child “jump for joy” in her womb. According to the Gospels, John declared, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord.’” Christians interpret this to mean that John was sent to prepare for the coming of the Messiah. John does just this, when he is the one who recognizes Jesus as the Messiah and baptizes him. The baptism marks the beginning of Jesus' ministry. Because this was said to be the beginning, John is know as John the Baptist and John the Forerunner. We will describe the appearance of John the Baptist further in our analysis and how this depicts his life hundreds of years later.…

The author does this by telling of how Satan was not necessarily in the wrong, but simply had a difference of opinion. By saying this, the author gives Satan a new light in which he is not someone who is evil, but someone who stands for something entirely separate from God. He goes even further with this by saying “how all his malice served but to bring forth infinite goodness, grace, and mercy, shewn on man by him seduced…” This shows, to some, how God is not the only choice and that Satan can provide for his followers, thus taking followers from God’s…

Book I of Paradise Lost by John Milton reflects and parallels the Biblical story of Satan’s fall when he became too proud and thought of himself higher than God. This epic poem goes into detail on Satan’s attitude and thoughts of his fall. In the beginning of the poem Satan is chained and captive in the Lake of Fire and it is only through God’s allowance that Satan can be free and devise plans. As the poem continues Satan goes through the process of acceptance of this state he is in and plans a way to take revenge on what God has done to him; this revenge takes place by interrupting the good that God does. He build his army of fallen angels and meets in the enormous palace which is appropriately called Pandemonium, this is where the planning and deception takes place, where he convinces the fallen angels that another war is feasible and potential victory. In Milton’s Paradise Lost Satan seems to undergo various changes throughout the poem from seeming small at the beginning to very large at the end. Milton writes in a way that shows there is a direct relation of Satan’s size to his power; however, no matter how large Satan gets, he will always be God’s captive.…

In the epic, Satan wants, even needs, freedom. He describes God as a dictator--a tyrant--who wants to crush the free will of all his subjects. Satan finds this too unbearable and starts to rebel against the oppressiveness of God’s ruling. This challenge is the first of its kind in the battle for freedom. In turn, God casts Satan and his followers out of Heaven, and into Hell. Even though Hell is a bit gloomy, Satan exclaims, “He/ Who now is Sovran can dispose and bid/What shall be right: fardest from Him is best!” (I. 245-247) Satan is…
