The title of the book may illustrate how war can destroy a kid's heart, the same way that burying the sun would darken and eventually destroy the earth. It also gets dark and cold in Siberia, as if one 'buried' the sun. In my opinion, this is a great historical fiction on World War II.
The story takes place in early 1940s Russia, in the city of Leningrad (now called St. Petersburg). The main character is a 15-year old boy named Georgi. His mother, sisters, and neighbors are supporting characters in the book.
