In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 he was writing about what our future could be like if we continue to do as we do today. If all we do is sit around all day watching TV we don’t create relationships and friendships, we lose them. In the world of Fahrenheit 451 your best friend is your TV. You miss out on all good things in life because you’re too busy not thinking about life, communicating with others, and you’re not actually feeling. You try so hard to not feel, and it isn’t a good thing, because you start to lose your sense humanity. This book is warning us that if we don’t turn off our TV’s and technology and pick up a book sometimes or talk to somebody, you're not only missing out on an amazing experience …show more content…
but being able to talk to people about real things, things you can relate to. This book is also warning us about a government with too much authority, a race of people who have forgotten how to question or think independently, people that rely too much on technology, on mood related drugs, and on trusting the media with anything they tell you and the judgments they make. In Fahrenheit 451, the lack of physical communication and relations between people due to the use of technology destroys society as they seem to know it. Trying figure out what makes reading a book so important is a big topic in Fahrenheit 451. A quote in the book says, “We have everything we need to be happy, but we aren't happy. Something's missing. I looked around. The only thing I positively knew was gone was the books I'd burned in ten or twelve years. So I thought books might help.” Montag is saying that I do what is right and what’s supposed to make me happy, but why am I not happy? Because I burn books. Once you get that feeling of a book and it’s taken away from you, permanently, it’s hard to replace that feeling. Another quote in the book says, “There must be something in books, something we can’t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don’t stay for nothing.” Here Montag is questioning the importance of books and what makes them so special that somebody would give there life for them. What are these books saying to people and what do they mean and how is it benefiting them and their lives. Another quote from the book says, “The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” This quote tells me that not only Montag isn’t the only one that’s interested about books. Faber is educating and talking to Montag about the benefits of literature. And it makes Montag question himself. But something I got from this quote is that Faber had to question the world and literature at one point in his life and it’s probably why he understands and helps Montag so much. Because he was once at the same place where Guy Montag is now. Trying to figure out what makes reading a book so important is a big problem in Fahrenheit 451. In Fahrenheit 451, the lack of physical communication and relations between people due to the use of technology destroys society as they seem to know it.
Throughout the entire book Montag was trying to figure out why he wasn’t happy, what was making him unhappy. And finally he realized that it was because he was burning books. Something deep inside him would go missing every time he would burn a book and it got to the point where he couldn’t take. So Montag rebelled and went insane in his own little way and fought his way to finding out the truth about books. Montag had to live in a world where his wife that was too busy with her technology and sleeping pills and “friends” and “family” to even pay him any attention to him, except for when he showed her the books he’s had hidden all along. Which got her attention. Showing that even if you're not actually reading a book and you’re just bringing it up and talking about something other than what was on TV last night, brings out some kind of emotion and feeling in somebody. Showing us a reason they’re important, because they make people pay attention to their surroundings and create something with someone whether it's good or bad. Just being able to be human and feel human emotions even for just a moment is a
miracle.
