Book Summary: The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
The Lottery In the short story, “ The Lottery ” by Shirley Jackson, the characters have different feelings about the traditional game. The character, Tessie Hutchingson, strongly disagrees and thinks the lottery is unfair. Tessie Hutchingson doesn't like the lottery and she thinks the people of the town should be giving it up. So she tries forgetting about the whole event. She also thought it was unfair because her husband, Bill Hutchingson, gets “ chosen ”. However, others like old man Warner, feels differently and enjoys the lottery. Old man Warner makes it seem like the lottery is a good thing. He doesnt want the lottery to stop because its so much of a tradition. Old man Warner is pretty lucky because he has been in the lottery 77 times

    The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a short story about a seemingly normal day in a small village. The town has gathered together on a beautiful summers day to socialize and to support the local businesses. Typically, when one thinks of a lottery, they think of winning something pleasant, such as money or baked goods. However, after a few pages this is clearly not the case. In the beginning of the story, all the villagers are gathering while the children collect stones joyfully.
