They all pertain to the arrival of the Alphas. You know why the people are so violent towards the Alpha? Because they are afraid. They are afraid of what they do not understand, and due to their fear, they will not learn about the Alpha.
“We get to talk to a completely new species of person, with a culture that is thousands of years old. They have a language and art and science no human has ever witnessed. You are the envy of billions, and you all took a crap on it. What a waste.” Due to this fear, the people of Coney Island effectively waste their chance in history. Instead of trying to peacefully communicate, they riot. They are afraid of the Alpha, and so the people of Coney mob and violently protest. This is what I truly love about this book. It isn’t the main character, not the setting, the environment, nor the plot, although they were all well rounded. The author captures human nature when confronted with things we do not understand. We become afraid. Because of that fear, we lash out at what we do not comprehend. Things stronger than us, and higher than us. We riot, and mob, and congregate, and all of that fear reaches a breaking point, eventually breaking down order and
