BLACK AMERICANS OF ACHIEVEMENT BOOKER T WASHINGTON
Booker T Washington was born on April 5, 1856 in Hale’s Ford, Virginia. Booker was the first male person to become a male housekeeper. Booker was the last generation of Black American leaders born into slavery.
Booker T Washington parents are (mother) Jane Ferguson and (father) Washington Ferguson. His mother was a slave so while Booker worked in the house his mother had to work outside. When Booker was a little boy he used to see the other kids go to school. See back then they would not allow black kids to go to school and black and white kids could not play with each other. The house that Booker t was working at as a houseboy. The owner Mr. Lewis Ruffner. His wife Ms. Viola Ruffner was the one who recognized Booker T and encouraged him to study.
Even though Booker T Washington was not. A full time student when he was little. They did not let him go to school every day. But the lady Ms. viola Ruffner was the one who encouraged Booker to study. When Booker was an Adult he still couldn’t go to school. Because of the poverty. But years later Booker went to school. At Hampton Normal Agricultural institute. Where he got his education at. Booker worked as a Janitor. So that he could pay for his school Tuitions.
Booker T Washington had two Brothers name (John Washington) (James Ferguson) and he had one sister. Name (Amanda Ferguson Johnston).
Booker had three wives’s. The first wife is Ms. Fannie Smith she had one child with Booker Fannie (Died in 1884). Then Booker had a Second wife was Ms. Olivia Davidson whom he wed in 1885. She had two sons before she (Died/Dying in 1889). Then the third wife MS, Margaret Murray in 1893 she helped Booker raise the children’s from previous marriages. The Children Names are Booker T Washington Jr, Ernest Davidson Washington and Portia M. Washington.
Booker T Washington died on November 14,1915 in Tuskegee, Alabama.
