Books Are My Friends
Book is the Best Friend

I’ve always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library, says Jorge Luis Borges.
“A true friend is your 2nd self”. This is my personal experience that, like human friends, books are our best companions. When I read a book, I feel like talking to my best friend. Every book I read moulds my strengths and shapes my personality. Book gives us education, knowledge and pleasure.
Importance of reading books beggars description. Book is our great advisor because when we face any trouble, book stands by us to help. A person never feels alone in the company of books. Book spreads us knowledge, develops our mind, and awakens our conscience.
We become nomad without the touch of books. Book guides us when we become confused. Book consoles us in our moments of extreme despair. Book undoubtedly inspires us to struggle for higher aims. Like a true friend, it makes us smile and removes our loneliness.
Unlike human friend, book is always beside you. It never gives a lame excuse for its prior engagements. If you disagree with a book, it never minds your criticism.
Books are a medium to transport us into another world. To anyone else, they may like pages full of dull print, but to me, they open a door to a wondrous world of magic, mystery, imagination, love…. all created through a fantastic display of words.
Consciously or unconsciously, we take care of the books as if they are our best friends…….and yes, they are. Books are a great source of pleasure as well as learning.
Books are our never failing friends. Our worldly friends desert us but they never. Friends are plenty when the purse is full but fair-weather friends fall off in adversity. They lift the poor out of poverty and the wretched out of misery. Like best friends, the really good books sharpen our intellect, broaden our mind, enrich our experience, widen our knowledge, uplift our morals, making us better, nobler and happier in life.
Good books are like gold mines. The more one works as a

“A book is a gift you can open again and again,” wrote Garrison Keillor. People read all the time. They read for information, for escape, for entertainment, for instruction, for guidance. They read recipes and tweets and texts. They read newspapers, blogs, and Facebook replies. In a recent survey by Pew Research, the number of people who actually read a book in the past year was 72 percent in 2015. I am one of those. As I consider my reading experiences, I realize they represent the journey I have traveled, leading me to my current academic path.…

Books created worlds we’ve never seen, they questioned our philosophical purpose, and they answered it. From manuals to stories, books have been handed down as a collection of knowledge; but for the first time in millennia we’re raising entire generations who have never read a novel, short story or even a poem. David McCullough (2008), author of “The Love of Learning” defines for us the difference between facts and wisdom. Data is irrelevant until we have made the judgment to make it important and learn from it. We cannot memorize facts and call ourselves learned; we must look a layer deeper and find what the facts mean to us. “Learning is acquired mainly from books, and most readily from great books.” (McCullough, 2008, p. 2) Without books we are only being fed data, numbers and words without any true meaning. (McCullough,…

As a young child, I was always aware of books and the difference between books for children and books for adults. I would not say that I grew up in a family of devout readers, but I did grow up in a family of individuals who appreciated the value of books. Although my parents never seemed to have time to simply sit and read frequently, my mother had engaged with college-level texts in her adulthood, and both of my parents saw the benefit of exposing my sister and me to books at an early age. There was always a bookshelf in my house packed full of textbooks and enormous tomes with dusty, creased spines. We also had a full set of the Encyclopedia Britannica (which I recently found out is going out of print). It would be an exaggeration to say that these books intrigued me because they represented knowledge. However, they intrigued me because although they sat there and collected dust for years, my mother refused to throw them away. It was impressed upon me very early on that books were important, and that throwing them away was wrong. I did not get it completely at that point, especially because those books were incomprehensible to a four or five year old, but I understood that it was something that would be important when I was older.…

Books are precious pieces that improve one’s knowledge and help define one’s personality by relating themselves to characters within the text. As Vladimir Nabokov said in Good Readers and Good Writers “The reader should identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine.”(Nabokov, 973) I always believed that by reading a book you become one with yourself by somehow feeling all the problems of the characters and become completely absorbed in their world, therefore feeling like you have a purpose as you read.…
