Boston College Essay
I am passionate about business and I think that I would grow at Boston College, both intellectually and personally, in a number of ways as I pursue my ambition of one day running a business of my own. Ever since I started working for my family’s painting company in Berkshire County, Massachusetts four years ago, my aspiration to run it myself in the future has both directed and greatly motivated my academic studies. With that said, when it comes to Boston College, I believe that the combination of that determination along with BC’s strong academic atmosphere would make for inevitable intellectual growth. In an environment that emphasizes the importance of living a meaningful life, and with a huge part of that being to never stop learning, I think BC would be a great place for me to take on the General Management concentration in order to best equip myself for life ahead. …show more content…

However, what really gets my attention is the plethora of opportunities to strengthen my skillset of key life principles like problem solving, teamwork, communication, and time management beyond the classroom in Boston. Getting involved with the Animal Alliance organization as a means of changing lives and impacting the city in a positive manner, joining the club ice hockey team, and engaging with any business or work opportunities in the area are just a few core examples of how I would hope to grow at Boston College. By doing all of these things, I trust that BC would not only satisfy my hopes of equipping myself with the skills and knowledge to achieve my long-term goal of becoming a business owner, but also provide me with the best opportunity to make the most of the next three

When you see the word “college”, what comes to mind? For most of you, you probably immediately think of partying, drinking, and meeting new people. Those who choose to go to college will have the opportunity to experience the social life, but what you choose to study can control your future. In “How to Get a Real Education at College” by Scott Adams and “What Do You Do with a B.A. in History” by Ken Saxon, they agree that college is worth going to but they have different outlooks on what to do with that college education. Scott Adams believes in the concept of “B students”, which are just average students, and thinks they should study entrepreneurship because he has personal experience in this major. He is against the idea of “B students” studying liberal arts and finds this major to be useless for them in the real world. Ken Saxon has completely opposite views. Saxon believes that a liberal arts education is very valuable because with this education, you can do anything you want. He also argues that the skills you learn in these classes will help you become a better person and will prepare you for whatever you decide to do. Although both Adams and Saxon relate to their audiences and form strong ethos through their personal examples, Adams fails to be as convincing as Saxon because Saxon uses more objective evidence, is open-minded, and uses a more inspiring tone which establishes strong pathos.…

After viewing the two pieces from 20/20 and The Boston Globe, I personally believe the 20/20 television piece to be more effective for a number of reasons. The main issue that I've noticed with visual news is the obvious time constraints that are put on various pieces throughout the broadcast, most often seen on local news stations. Context and nuance is often sacrificed for sensationalism and a preternatural urgency to get as much information across in as little time as possible. However, this wasn't the case in the 20/20 piece, which spent just over six minutes (as opposed to the usual 1.5-3) hashing out the tragic story of a UMass confidential informant who died as an indirect result of questionable school policies. They talked to a multitude…

My BCU course and wider reading have helped me to understand business in more depth and have given me the best possible background to tackle various problems. This course have helped me to accomplish various business disciplines, motivation theories, the concept and development of business, marketing and accounting .I have been inspired by various reasons to study business to a higher level, including my father who is a successful businessman. I believe this has given me an honest insight into the world of business. The areas of business that interest me the most are operations of business, management resources and accounting. I have read many books about business. One of the most influential books that have influenced on my understanding of business concepts are Guide to College Resource and Financial Management” by Bob Lawrence, “How to sell yourself “and “How to close every sale” by Joe Girard. One of his main concepts is that successful business is not simply about making money, but also about job satisfaction, which is something I while-heartily agree with.…
