Boston Library Comparison
In this assignment I am proceeding to compare and contrast between the library I work at, Meade County Public Library, and Boston Public Library.

The Meade County Public Library’s website at first is welcoming and simple. As I look further into the site and tabs I see it has a lot more to offer. I’ll start from the home page at www.meadereads.org. The first thing I notice is the slide show of current programs that are going on. As I scroll down the page I see a list of fresh new books, its location, and the business hours. On each tab there is more information once it has been selected. Under the first tab, About the Library, has a Mission, History of the Library, Board of Trustees, Bookmobile, Computer Access, Hours; Library Policies, and
…show more content…
The website also lists information about the 24 Neighborhood Branches, Branch Capital Projects, and Map of Library Locations. As far as research services go, the library has: Ask a Librarian, Interlibrary Loan, Research Guides, Special Collections, and Contact Research Services. Under the Our Collections tab is BPL Catalog, Overdrive, Hoopla Streaming Media, Zinio Digital Magazines, All eBook Resources, Booklists for Adults, Interlibrary Loan, Newspapers, Online Collections, Collections of Distinction, Archival and Manuscript Finding Aids, Special Collections, World Languages, Delivery Desk, and Personalized Reading …show more content…
The Boston Public Library provides information about programs under the Programs and Events tab, such as Author Talk Series, Calendar of Events, Computer Classes, Concerts in the Courtyard, Exhibitions, Literacy Services and ESL, Local and Family History Series, Never Too Late Group, Programs in the Community, Proposing Programs and Shakespeare Initiative. The last tab, Press Room, has information about the Press Room, Organization, Media Releases, For Members of the Press, and Subscribe to BPL eNews.

Both of the libraries have numerous reference resource’s in common. The Meade County Public Library and the Boston Public Library have programs for all age groups, online catalog, interlibrary loans, ebooks, digitized files, booklists, and much more.

What the websites have to offer may not be in the “definition” but in my opinion they offer valuable information and references. Each library is different and the same in their own ways. I’ve enjoyed learning about another library so far

The library website is part of the city website and informs users of library news, services, and library hours. Theodore Johns also has its own Facebook page, posting pictures of events held at the library. The noteworthy improvement is in the Library’s online card catalog. The online card catalog is easier to use, having a search bar and drop down menu to narrow results by fields and location in the library (Beaumont Public Library Catalog). Patrons can also sign into their library account, by logging in with their library card number; to see how many books they checked out, if they have any fines, and can renew and request books (Beaumont Public Library…

One of the most influential modernist architects of Sweden, Gunnar Asplund, is well known for his numerous creations of Nordic classical designs. An example of such is the Stockholm Public Library which was completed in 1928. Asplund, along with many other 20th century architects have adopted elements of classical architecture when considering the design of their work. By linking Asplunds design philosophy and design intentions with classical architecture, The Stockholm Public Library will be able to be analysed in detail with regards to the elements of classical architecture that it contains. This will create a greater understanding of the way in which elements of classical architecture have been implemented in 20th century buildings in general.…
