Weeks later after the party, the tea was dumped into the harbor caused it to have a bad smell. The British had to shut down the Harbor until all 342 chests of the tea were paid off which was incorporated in the Intolerable acts. Other acts were also carried such as Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, the Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act due to American colonists being more fed up with the British rule. The Boston Tea party was such a turning point that it sparked the birth of the American Revolution which began in Massachusetts on April 19,…
The Boston Tea Party was a key event in the growth of the American Revolution. Parliament responded in 1774 with the Coercive Acts, or Intolerable Acts, which, among other provisions, ended local self-government in Massachusetts and closed Boston's commerce. Colonists up and down the Thirteen Colonies in turn responded to the Coercive Acts with additional acts of protest, and by convening the First Continental Congress, which petitioned the British monarch for repeal of the acts and coordinated colonial resistance to them. The crisis escalated, and the American Revolutionary War began near Boston in 1775.…
The following paper will tell a story of a shoemaker in Boston during the 1770's recalling events of British arrogance and his participation in, of the now historic "Boston tea Party". George Hewes, the Boston shoemaker, was over ninety years old when he tells his story to a journalist in 1834. In my paper I hope to enlighten you on the similarities of the action and attitude of John Malcolm…
Peaceful resistance to laws does positively impact a free society. The Boston Tea Party of 1773 and the arrest of Rosa Parks on December 1st, 1955 are both great examples of that. The british continuation of placing taxes on tea was the reason the Boston Tea Party first began. Angry colonists chose to dress themselves as Mohawk Indians (to not get recognized as they got on british tea ships) to dump thousands of pounds of tea down the Boston Harbor. Even though they were unfortunately punished after this by the british, it resulted in being one of the main reasons why America wanted independence from Britain and in the end were gladly able to achieve that! This brings me to the next point, Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was arrested for not approving…
The American Revolution has its roots in 1585 when an expedition, guided by Sir. Walter Raleigh, founded the English colony of Virginia, and in 1620 when 105 Pilgrim Father landed in Massachusetts, from the Mayflower. They signing a pact which commitmented them to a creation of a civil political society. With time, there was the creation of 13 colonies. Despite the presence of a governor appointed by the King of England, the king gave substantial political freedom of self-government but certain restrictions contrasted with the home country are economics.…
The nickname “The Boston Tea Party” that refers to the rebellious actions of dumping tea into Boston harbor was actually given in a later time period. The original name that colonist described it as was “The Destruction of the Tea”.1An important man named George Robert Twelves Hewes gives a personal recollection of his participation during the prerevolutionary war. Hewes was renounced a hero in his later years towards his hundredth birthday. He was the last know survivor of the massacre, a leader during the tea party, and a privateer. Hewes’ story helps identify how ordinary men were treated in the American and their opinions of equality in the late eighteenth century. A revolution was necessary to impede…
The British wanted to regulate the tea trade in America. This aroused colonial traders. The citizens wanted the ships to return back as they did not want to pay taxes on tea. On 16th December 1773, a group of men disguised themselves and sneaked into three British ships and jettisoned all the tea into the water.…

This was a protest that consisted of 340 chests of tea being thrown into the Boston Harbor on the night of December 16th, 1773. The colonists did this because they were unhappy with Great Britain's Government’s decision of the tea tax. This dissatisfaction didn’t make very much sense but at this point, all the colonists wanted was to rebel and separate from England so they would complain about basically anything. What England did was lower the price of tea so that they could put a tax on it. Even with this newly added tax, the price of tea was still lower than before.…
From the outspoken events of the Boston Tea Party to the courageous acts of the Civil Rights Movements, the United States has been built on the idea of a free society, where all men are created equal, and where equal representation is practiced throughout the states. But throughout history, the laws of the government have sometimes suppressed specific groups of American citizens, causing many to feel betrayed or unworthy in the eyes of our Founding Fathers. That’s why in 1776, the Founding Fathers stated in the Declaration of Independence that it’s the right of the people to abolish or alter any government that becomes destructive of deriving their powers from the consent of the governed. Founding Father, John Adams states that “Government…
The incident that has been termed the Boston Tea Party occurred on December 16, 1773, when government officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed-imposed tea to Britain. A group of colonists boarded the ships in disguise and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor (BTPHS). The Tea Act of 1773 essentially allowed one of Britain’s greatest commercial interests of the day, The East India Company, a monopoly over tea imports to all British colonies. Due to increased competition from the Dutch and the already high tax the Crown placed on tea, the East India Company had a surplus of tea. The solution that King George III and Parliament came up with was to force this tea on the colony (Knollenberg 93). Basically, a captive market was created for British products by the British Government. There was fear amongst the colonists that this could extend to products other than tea. The colonists’ actions and the government reaction widened an already growing chasm between Crown and colonists (Larabee 106).…
George Bernard Shaw once wrote “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything’”(Shaw). Every 2-4 years, Americans go to the polls to elected officials to office to either change or enact progress of policies. The system of government of democracy may speak for the majority to the country, but a minority comparatively can counteract and speak out for its injustices. In the 2008 Presidential Election, Democratic Senator Barack H.Obama was elected to the office of President. After his election, a conservative moment known as the Tea Party emerged to fight back the left leaning Federal Government. 2016 saw the election of Republican Businessman Donald J. Trump, a left wing movement is at rise. Protests occur in the streets a day after his inauguration, People, mainly liberal, refer themselves as being apart of the new left movement with no official name, but to be called the Resistance. Movements such as the The Tea Party and the new founded Resistance are important as shown through the correlation between Presidential Approval Rating and Midterm Elections results. People vote on policy based on economic principles by referring to unemployment rate and influence of taxes that fund federal programs for lower income citizens of the U.S.…
