In the allegory Animal Farm, George Orwell alluded to the Russian Revolution, by using fictional characters. Throughout the story a pig named Napoleon is trying to make an utopian society, but is becoming more like a dictator. In contrast, another main character Boxer, who represents the working community, is working the hardest out of anyone. He is always portraying the characteristics of hardworking, loyalty, and bravery. Without Boxer being on the farm the animals would have succumbed to Napoleon antics long before they did. Boxer is the hardest working on the farm and keeps it running. For example, “ He made an arrangement with one of the cockerels
to call him in the mornings half an hour earlier than anyone else…” (10). This exemplifies, that Boxer is willing to do more work than any other animal, and that he is indefatigable and willing to give up his time. In addition, Boxer is never found gamboling around on the farm, and has the dedication to get up and do anything that is necessary so that the farm keeps going on. All in all, Boxer is the most hard working animal and wants the farm to succeed even if he can not help any more. In addition, Boxer is extremely loyal to his leader and will do anything that he says. For example, the book says “ Only Boxer and Clover never lost heart” (23). This shows that, Boxer believes in his leader and that he will always make everything fine, even though his leader is acting with malignity. Furthermore, by stating that he never lost heart, shows he will do anything he's told to do no matter how unfair or hard it is. In summary, Boxer is a devotee to Napoleon and believes that he is always right and anything that he says is to be done without an ignominious manner. Finally, Boxer is extremely brave in any situation at any time. As an illustration, the text states “ But the most terrifying spectacle of all was Boxer, rearing up on his hind legs and striking out with his great iron shod hoofs like a stallion” (14). This shows that Boxer is not afraid to go straight into the heat of the battle and get hurt, he also often emboldens the other animals into fighting harder. Furthermore, when he was striking out with his hoofs he was making all of the men scared but he himself was not afraid of the humans. Overall, Boxer is a key part in keeping the farm running and safe throughout the entire story. In conclusion, Boxer having the characteristics of hardworking, loyal, and bravery helped the farm survive. Throughout the entire story the animals were trying to make a utopian society, but did not succeed. It is impossible to have a utopian society because there always has be someone in power.
