Boy Gets Girl Play Analysis

The following play that I viewed and am about to critique is, “Boy Gets Girl” by Rebecca Gilman. In this play there are seven characters: Theresa, Tony, Howard, Mercer, Harriett, Les, and Beck. The play was set in New York City during the Fall of 2000 and a basic mood of the show was suspenseful drama. The play starts off with Theresa, a journalist, going on an awkward, blind date with Tony, that was set up by their mutual friend Linda. After the date, Tony constantly sends flowers to Theresa's office and calls her. Hesitant, Theresa agrees to go on a second date with him, this time at a restaurant, but it ends badly as she suggests to stay friends. Tony doesn’t take the hint, and continues to send flowers and show’s up to Theresa's office where they argue and Tony gets extremely mad. For work, Theresa interviews Les, a filmmaker that gets inspiration from female breasts, to which Theresa criticizes him on his objectification and leaves. Back at the office, Theresa
From Theresa’s experience, Mercer decides he wants to write an article about objectifying and stalking women, to which Theresa decides to stay with Howard instead and tension grows between the two. Strangely, Harriet begins to buy food and expensive presents for Theresa and explains how she was the one that gave him Theresa's home phone number and address. At Theresa’s apartment, Howard and Mercer find the place trashed and Howard explains how he saw Tony following him earlier that day. Later, Theresa decides to visit Les in the hospital and they bond over watching Jeopardy and Les’s history of when he took his marriage for granted and then lost the love of his life. The play ends with Theresa, Mercer, and Howard packing up Theresa’s apartment when Tony bangs on door but quickly runs away, which causes Theresa to introduce herself as
