The novel, Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, presents the theme that it is best not to keep secrets. Throughout the book, there are many secrets kept from Bruno and even Bruno keeps some of the secrets that he came across. An example is when his father keeps a room for all the work he does, and tells the kids not to go in. He is apart of terminating the Jews and possibly feels his kids are too young to know. Another example of secrets being kept is when Bruno and Shmuel meet and Bruno decides to not tell anyone about his friendship. All of the secrets kept throughout the book lead to Bruno’s death.
