I believe the author's main rhetorical appeal was the usage of logos. For instance, the author makes a statement of how a company going green can easily be seen as a "flexible exploration strategy," (page 113). He continues on with a solid example of BP choosing to develop a sustainable coffee subsidiary in order to gain a more positive name in this aspect.
