Bradbury Home Description
As the reader sees in the world depicted by Bradbury, the human race was completely wiped out, leaving nothing but a single standing home on a hill. The home which once belonged to a family of four was now surrounded by nothing but the ruins of what used to be. We can only assume that Bradbury was insinuating that this was the end of the world as we knew it. The year was 2026 and this house was very special in many ways. This house is what we would consider to be a smart home; it cooked, cleaned and did every task in between for its owners. The home basically was the textbook definition of convenience, the owners never even had to lift a finger to do daily chores around the house. What made this house really special was that although there
was not a soul in sight, the house continued to perform its daily task as normal. It cooked, cleaned and even read a poem for the family that was no longer there. The home had not the slightest clue that there was no longer anyone to perform these tasks for which makes you wonder how smart the house really was. The only remnants of the family that once lived in the home was their belongings and the eerie silhouettes of their last actions made of smoke on the wall. Bradbury really stressed on the fact that although humans may find it hard to live without technology, technology had no problem living without humans. What made the story even more ironic was the fact that at the end nature ended up overpowering technology. The house ended up catching on fire and although it tried to fight back it lost and ultimately ended up in ruins like the rest of the city around it. Guess you could say this was an act of technology vs. nature. What makes it ironic is the fact that nature which we as a society tend to neglect ended destroying technology which is something that society places so much time and interest in. This short story really makes the reader reevaluate the importance that we place on both nature and technology. Too little nature and too much technology ended up destroying the world.
