First, Kimmerer supports this claim through process analysis on page 4 when she writes “The land grew and grew as she danced her thanks … but from the alchemy of all the animals’ gifts coupled with her deep gratitude” (Kimmerer, 4). This process analysis characterizes the creation of Earth. It It induces a feeling of inspiration in the audience to realize that it takes everyone to make a beautiful creation. This feeling appears because the audience makes a connection with the story of creation
and the animals. People feel inclined to help others when they read how the animals helped Skywoman. Kimmerer’s purpose is to articulate the power of teamwork and what can come from it in order to inspire the audience to include other people in what they do so they may create something beautiful.
Secondly, Kimmerer supports this claim through description on page 5 when she writes “Breathe in its scent and you start to remember things you didn’t know you’d forget” (Kimmerer, 5). This description evokes a sensation of connectedness. The audience feels connected because they are able to try and picture things that they may have forgotten, and are able to connect with those memories. The audience is also able to rekindle and reconnect with old feelings that they may have had that were associated with those memories. Kimmerer’s purpose is to interest the audience in old memories in order to make the audience long for more.
By using process analysis and description, Kimmerer is able to evoke a sense of creativity and connectedness.
