Brave Freedom Films can leave an imprint on our morals and help mold the way we view certain aspects of our lives. They strike an appeal to many different emotions. Similar to novels, films help shape our culture and understanding. In the film Braveheart, there are many emotions and morals that presented to the audience. One of the main themes of this film is freedom. Braveheart uses various film techniques to portray the theme of freedom throughout the film. Braveheart is a film about Sir William Wallace’s rebellion against the British King Edward I Longshanks. Sir William Wallace was tired of British rule over Scottish land, and encouraged many Scotsman to take the freedom they deserve. Together the Scottish wage war against the armies of the British and create conflict for the King of Britain.
This means that William is more dominant and associated with a hero. Which is true to his character’s role because he is the encouragement of freedom, and most hero’s fight for freedom and justice. This means the British are filmed on the right side, but also in the center as well. This staging means that they are also important, but they weaker compared to their opponent on the right. It looks as though throughout the entire scene, the Scottish are always attacking the British from the right. This suggests that the Scottish need for freedom will prevail. The editing of this scene is pretty straight forward. This scene has a very classical style of editing, making the transition from one part to another very seemless and smooth. The scene often has parts that follow right into the next part making it easier to achieve that classical editing style. It does not have any dissolves, jump cuts, match cuts, or fade ins or outs. This is because the film is based off historical events making it easier to follow because of the simple editing it
