The series has been labeled a contemporary western by its creator.[2][3]
The series premiered on January 20, 2008 in the United States and Canada on the cable channel AMC, and the series finale aired on September 29, 2013.[9] Breaking Bad received widespread critical acclaim,[10][11][12][13][14] and is widely regarded as one of the greatest television series of all time.[15][16][17][18][19][20] By its end, the series was among the most-watched cable shows on American television, with audience numbers that doubled in the fifth season from the previous year's episodes.[21]
The series has won ten Primetime Emmy Awards, including three consecutive wins for Outstanding Lead Actor for Bryan Cranston (2008–2010), two wins for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Aaron Paul (2010, 2012), an Outstanding Supporting Actress win for Anna Gunn (2013), and, after three previous nominations, Outstanding Drama Series for the first half of the fifth season in 2013. The series has been nominated for seven Golden Globe Awards and won Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor for Cranston for its final season. Cranston also received five nominations and won twice for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Male Actor, and the series won for Outstanding Ensemble (Drama Series) for its final season. With reality shows taking over airtime nowadays, psychological thrillers in television are a rare genre. Admittedly, it can be a tasking genre to develop a show around, but Vince Gilligan has managed to create, quite possibly one of the greatest shows ever, Breaking Bad. In the pilot episode, the audience was introduced to Walter White, a middle-aged high school Chemistry teacher. He sounds like an average, typical man, but he was introduced in the most peculiar way. Gilligan opened this award-winning show with Walter, underwear-clad, holding a pistol, next to a crashed R.V. in the middle of the desert. The audience questioned this of course. How is this man in such a bizarre situation? What’s even going on? Although the opening was abnormal and confusing at first, Gilligan effectively developed Walter’s character throughout the series, as well as his alter ego known as Heisenberg, using an engrossing story, excellent character development, and the appeal of pathos.…

Robert William Pickton was a pig farmer and serial killer who targeted prostitutes and murdered them on his farm. We viewed the documentary about him, as well as the Criminal Minds episode to compare how real life crimes are shown in the media. They both had very different ways of portraying the case. The documentary had real facts, interviews, and voice recordings of Pickton. The Criminal Minds episode followed a similar storyline, but altered some of the facts to make it a more interesting and intense show that their audience would enjoy. Some of the differences were the length of time it took to catch Pickton, the isolation of the farm, and the gender of the victims.…

Covered in tattoos, unruly red hair and dirt permanently embedded in his fingernails, this is the appearance of McMurphy, rough and tough. Antiheroes tend to have scars, whether they are visible on the surface or they are internal flaws that cannot be seen, in McMurphy's case, a large scar etched across his face is his external scar, this scar contributes to his tough appearance. His internal flaw was mental, he had an extreme error of judgement that eventually lead him in the direction of his eventual downfall. In addition to this, Walter White from the television series, Breaking Bad also had a major flaw, deeming him an antihero as well. Walter White was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, a huge internal flaw, which supported the reasons behind his actions. He tested the law and got involved in making drugs as he accepted the fact that he was going to die anyway, just as McMurphy tested the law by gambling illegally and attempting rape, which in turn, resulted him being convicted and sent to…

All good television shows have to be intelligent and thought provoking. Grey’s Anatomy is a thought provoking television show. The episodes are based off of actual medical cases. The show also makes someone think about the controversial/ ethical decisions, such as cheating to get a patient at the top of the organ transplant list by cutting his LVAD wire so his condition would worsen. Another show that is thought provoking is Mythbusters. The show makes someone think about how/ why something is happening. Plus, a lot of people are curious and have the same question about certain myths. A show that is definitely thought provoking is Brain Games. It makes people think why the brain/ body reacts the way that it does to an optical illusion. For example, reading the color of a word and not the word itself is so much harder than reading the word and not the color of the word.…

The gang members choose to take the easy road; they aren’t putting in the effort needed for an honest day’s work and would rather drive around creating destruction and vandalizing things. At the end of the movie we are able to see them be faced with karma as they kill Walt and are subsequently sent to jail. This shows the distinction between the characters motivations those who are essentially good people and are willing to work for their success and those who are willing to break the laws and rules to find easier ways to do things. Michaels also states that the American Dream is based upon the belief that people should work together and help each other and we are able to see that manifest when Walt passes away and leaves his Gran Torino to Thao, giving him a vehicle to further himself towards the American Dream.…
