The only thing that the doctors remove from the breast is the tumor and a margin of tissue that was surrounding the mass or lump. A mastectomy can also be performed when the cancer has severely affected the woman’s breast. Mastectomy is the removal of the breast along with the axillary lymph nodes and the lining over the chest muscle of course minus the actual muscle itself. There are many procedures that can help with breast cancer, and every day scientists and doctors are trying to come up with cures for this disease trying to make them less stressful and painful for women (Wexler, Oberleinter 2013). In conclusion, when the cancer is removed the doctor may recommend radiation or chemotherapy to help destroy any remaining breast cancer cells. Radiation and chemotherapy can be painful, but it helps save the womans life even though they come with horrendous side effects. Breast Cancer is a disease that has claimed the lives of many women and hopefully one day the doctors, scientists, or anyone else will find a better way to get rid of the disease without having to lose the lives of any more women. Or maybe even find a way to help prevent the disease (Kirsh,
