ABSTRACT

The study aimed to determine the level of awareness of the mothers in Purok 1, Bancasi, Butuan City on Tetanus Toxoid Immunization for Women Program. A descriptive type of research was utilized in the study using a survey questionnaire as a primary tool in collecting the data. The researchers involved 45 mothers who were presently residing at Purok 1 Bancasi, Butuan City. A random sampling was used in the determination of the respondents. The data were collected, tabulated and analyzed using the weighted mean as statistical too. Findings showed that the mothers strongly agree that they are aware of the tetanus toxoid immunization for women program. The researchers recommend that the mothers should comply with the program since they are already aware of it.

Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): This combination vaccine blocks against three different diseases. Tetanus blocks against a bacterial infection due to exposure to rusty (usually metal) objects. Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that causes respiratory distress due to a membrane that covers the airways in the lungs. Pertussis is a disease similar to Diphtheria that comes from bacteria and causes whooping cough.…

The DTaP and Tdap vaccines protect against three bacterial infections, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. The dangers associated with diphtheria come from the toxin released by the bacterium, Corynebacterium diphtheria. The toxin makes it difficult for children to breathe and swallow, while it also attacks the heart, kidneys, and nerves. In the 1920s, diphtheria was a common cause of death in children and adolescents. At its peak, about 150,000 cases of diphtheria occurred in the United States every year. The diphtheria vaccine since it was first used in the United States in the early 1940s, has virtually eliminated the disease. Now we see bacterium, Clostridium tetani. Unlike most vaccine-preventable diseases, tetanus is not a disease…

Infant vaccinations should be heavily regulated due to alleged medical ramifications. Parents whose infants have suffered from an alleged adverse vaccination side effect affirm vaccines lead to medical complications, and therefore the parents should become thoroughly educated on the procedure, regulate the quantity, and refuse to put their infant in harms way. Haugen and Musser (2012) suggest that citizens required to…

USES: This medication is given to provide protection (immunity) against tetanus (lockjaw) in adults and children 7 years or older. Vaccination is the best way to protect against this life-threatening disease. Vaccines work by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies). Tetanus vaccine is usually first given to infants with 2 other vaccines for diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis) in a series of 3 injections. This medication is usually used as a "booster" vaccine after this first series. Closely follow the vaccination schedule provided by the doctor.Booster injections may be needed at the time of injury in older children and adults if it has been 5-10 years since the last tetanus vaccine was received. Booster injections should also be given every 10 years even if no injury has occurred. This injection or an injection with tetanus/diphtheria or tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis may be used for the booster.…

Immunisation is another factor that can affect the baby’s health and development. A baby will get their first immunisation when they are around 2 months old and will continue to be immunised throughout their first year of life with immunisations such as DTaP/IPV/Hib or 5-in-1 vaccine, Pneumococcal or pneumo jab (PCV), Meningitis C, Hib/Men C (booster) and MMR. Immunisation is important to a child’s health and development because it protects them from serious diseases. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/immunisation/documents/immunisation_child_br.pdf tells us “It not only helps protect individuals, it also protects the broader community by minimising the spread of disease,” so therefore also protects the other children that they may come in contact with at day care, playgroups or…

    Pertussis: Whooping Cough

    • 1469 Words

Despite the obvious protection of the disease some parents decide not to vaccinate their child against pertussis for a number of reasons. One of these is the concern for their child’s safety, especially because pertussis is given to babies when they are very young to ensure their safety. Because it is very dangerous for young children, some people believe that the vaccine may overwhelm the baby’s immune system and that their immune systems aren’t mature enough. These people believe it is safer to delay vaccines until children get older, therefore exposing their baby to the risk of whooping cough that could potentially kill…

There has been a growing concern that health sector needs a huge attention today, not only from government, citizen, but also from many discipline of health care practices. In the recent year, in the United States which is a superpower country, the delivery of human services is still to be a constant puzzle for policy makers, practitioners, and academics (Mayhew, 2012). Health care delivery (including preventive and supportive care) in this country is challenged by demands of access, safety, quality, and cost (Giberson, et. al., 2011). Even though, many years before, these health care issues has been arised as Wilson D.E. stated that the year 1994 was one of great health care non-reform, although national legislation was enacted, states began to seek ways to deal seriously with the issues, primarily the cost, but also the quality of care (Institute of Medicine 25th Anniversary Symposium, 1996). The same thing is happened in the developing country, even worse. Such as in Indonesia, despite solid economic growth in recent years that has raised millions from poverty, Indonesia faces numerous healthcare challenges, from maternal mortality to vector-borne diseases such as malaria to malnutrition, and degenerative diseases associated with a population that is both ageing and living an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. (The Economist Intelligence Unit, 2010). Besides that, most of population in this country lives in rural areas making the delivery of health care services difficult, a system of community health centres is being developed in response to the needs of the rural community (Jacobalis S., 1989). This means that health care matter is still unresolved.…

    Mandatory Vaccinations

Parents and guardians, who believe that vaccines should not be mandatory, contend that vaccines cause health problems or they are no longer necessary. Children get their main vaccines between the ages of two months to twelve months old. Children at this age are already at a high risk for developing high fevers, seizures, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Therefore, there is no way of truly determining if any adverse effect on the child was coincidental or actually caused by the inoculation itself. Since 1990, thirty thousand cases have been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) where the patient had an adverse reaction to the vaccine. Out of the thirty thousand cases three thousand nine hundred were reported as life threatening. That is a small percentage when compared to the 10.5 million illnesses that the same vaccines have prevented. (Zhou, 2003) Because polio is not carried in the USA, there are those who feel that not only should the vaccine not be mandatory, it is completely unnecessary. Opponents to mandatory vaccinations have forgotten one important truth. Thousands of innocent children have lost their lives due to diseases such as smallpox and polio, which could have easily been prevented through the use of vaccines. In reality, it is…
