At this point, my parents with their individual viewpoint started to have variance on me adapting to the new environment. Having different perspective towards society's operation caused tension within our family. Now the question arises," Don't parents realize that too much parental control halts child's personal growth?" Such type of parenting style is referred to as authoritarian. "Authoritarian parents utilize strict and harsh child rearing techniques with an absolute set of standards to which children must conform while permissive parents provide too few rules, boundaries, or restrictions for their children" (Chong, et al 1). Parents must not adopt authoritarian parenting style as it contributes to such behavior which is never welcomed by them when presented and further leads to tension within the family. This parenting style develops such consequences which leave kids down with psychological and personality disorders, consisting problems like fear of failing at each step of life, withdrawing oneself from socializing and turning out to be authoritarian towards parents as an…

Strong rules and penalties are set, but children are also taught that it is okay to make mistakes. Often, the child will be warned and forgiven if they don’t reach a certain level of expectation. However, while forgiveness can be offered, the main part of authoritative parenting is setting the rules and then sticking to them. Too often, parents give their children rules, and then fail to follow through; this teaches your child zero except that you don’t mean what you say. The entire goal of authoritative parenting is to teach. Teaching children to be mature, teaching them that they are responsible for their own actions and the rewards or penalties that come from them. Also teaching independence, understanding, and the fact they if they need something, they are always able to turn to their parents and will be acknowledged with friendliness and…

Unlike other parenting styles, authoritative parents have both demanding and responsive criterium (Alegre 2011, p. 57). Authoritative parenting style involves two theories: "behavior control" and “acceptance" (Steinberg et al. 1989, p. 1525). According to Steinberg, behavioral control is defined as a control which limits and monitors their children’s behavior and actions. Steinberg also described that acceptance is a state where children accept the rules that were imposed on them because they understand and accept the reason why the rules were set. In other words, authoritative parents do not only enforce rules, but they also explain the basis and reasons why the rules and regulations need to be obeyed. As a result, children who go through this style of parenting and teaching develop more positive attitudes than their peers because they are treated warmly, democratically and firmly, which consequently affects their academic performance (Steinberg et al. 1989, p.…

There are many ways that a child can pick up the negative behavior that could be given to them by their parents such as how their adults deal with situations or how they act towards the child when at home. There is a rough outline that parents should follow in order to provide a balanced relationship. There is a very fine line between wanting respect and wanting them to fear you and sadly there are some individuals who cannot differentiate the two. We still have the same problems today; it is difficult knowing what is the right thing to do and what is not when you are raising a child. In the end, the best thing to know is to ask yourself if what you are doing is in the child’s best interest. Those who have children who look up to them and depend on them should know that although it might not seem like it right now, children will never forget the type of attention which they received at an early age when they are with loved…

Children do not come with guidelines or instructions. What they do come with is a crucial set of physical and emotional needs that need to be met. To raise children properly, parents duties are not limited to just food, shelter and protection. Parents are largely responsible for their children’s success in life. Parents are required to teach and educate children. They have to shape knowledge and character into their children to prepare them to face the real world. To be successful with this, parents must provide self esteem needs, teach moral and values and provide discipline that is both effective and appropriate. As the generations have changed, many parenting styles have evolved, as well. While growing up my mother was always more of an authoritarian parent. As I have grown up and have children on my own, I choose not to parent with the same parenting methods that she had used. I am more of an authoritative parent. There are great differences in both my mother’s and my parenting styles, such as parental responsiveness and parental demandingness; however the largest disparity is the end result: the children.…

Mr. and Mrs. Harsh-Heart use authoritarian parenting style, I do not see any advantages when a parent uses this type of parenting style to raise their children. Authoritarian parenting style set very high standards for the children; parents are very demanding and are not responsive to the child’s needs or concerns. Parents don’t try to understand the child or try to understand the child’s point of view. These parents set strict rules of conduct and are critical of their children for not meeting these high standards. Parents want to control their children by telling them what they need to do without explaining why they want their children to do things and if the child questions the authority, parents reply with “Because I said so”, instead of going in to detail why it’s not a good choice. Children raised by authoritarian parents don’t learn to think for themselves and don’t understand why parents want them to behave in a certain way. Parents with Authoritarian parenting style tend to focus more on bad behavior than positive behavior; if the child behaves badly they are harshly punished. Children may learn to behave themselves because of fear of the parent or may have a hard time learning to think for them or they may rebel in reaction to the controlling methods of their parents.…
